American politics is entrenched in the era of Reconstruction: Republicans are the problem

Echo report by Ezra Klein published in The New York Times June 3, 2021‘The Point Was to Win,’ Barack Obama Writes.

Maine Writer- Scary data reported by Klein! Racism is now couched in ambiguous political labels like "The Tea Party". Right wing groups are coming out of their dark hiding places, because #FormerGuy sent them the dog whistle permission to create sedition. Even free and fair elections are not resolving the evil intentions of groups like QAnon, the hideous Proud Boys and the spin off domestic terrorist cults.
Klein reports this interview with President Barack Obama:

“My entire politics is premised on the fact that we are these tiny organisms on this little speck floating in the middle of space,” Barack Obama told me, sitting in his office in Washington.

I was the one who had introduced the cosmic scale, asking how proof of alien life would change his politics. But Obama, in a philosophical mood, used the question to trace his view of humanity. “The differences we have on this planet are real,” he said. “They’re profound. And they cause enormous tragedy as well as joy. But we’re just a bunch of humans with doubts and confusion. We do the best we can. And the best thing we can do is treat each other better, because we’re all we got.”

How Obama navigated the differences we have on this planet is the primary topic of “A Promised Land,” the first volume of his presidential memoirs. One passage, in particular, had stuck in my mind for weeks. Obama is reflecting on the Tea Party uprising, and the thrumming undercurrent of racism that powered it. He recalls the din of cable news chatter debating the Tea Party’s true nature, and the pressure that built for him to render his presidential verdict. He admits that his White House wanted nothing to do with this debate, in part because it had “reams of data telling us that white voters, including many who supported me, reacted poorly to lectures about race.”

I’m going to quote what Obama writes next at length:

More practically, I saw no way to sort out people’s motives, especially given that racial attitudes were woven into every aspect of our nation’s history. Did that Tea Party member support “states’ rights” because he genuinely thought it was the best way to promote liberty, or because he continued to resent how federal intervention had led to an end to Jim Crow, desegregation, and rising Black political power in the South? Did that conservative activist oppose any expansion of the social welfare state because she believed it sapped individual initiative, or because she was convinced that it would benefit only brown people who’d just crossed the border? Whatever my instincts might tell me, whatever truths the history books might suggest, I knew I wasn’t going to win over any voters by labeling my opponents racist.

The poet Robert Frost famously said that “a liberal is a man too broad-minded to take his own side in a quarrel.” This is not quite true of Obama, but it is nearly true of his authorial style. “A Promised Land,” which covers the first half of his presidency, is not 700 pages long because it limns so many events. It’s 700 pages long because it presents so many different views of Obama and his motivations.

Over and over again, Obama tries to make clear that his assailants have a point, that his perspective is bounded by experience and self-interest. This is true in his personal recollections, which give ample space to Michelle Obama’s doubts about his decision to pursue a political career, and it is true in his political remembrances, which always try to inhabit his critics' arguments, or at least their sentiments.

But what strikes me about that passage is that you can see Obama’s idealism and calculation shimmer into a single point. After suggesting that the motivations of his Tea Party critics were unknowable, he resolves the argument by saying the politics of it were thoroughly knowable. Whatever his own intuitions might tell him — whatever “truths the history books might suggest” — to cry racism, or even to coolly point it out, was to lose votes, and neither his version of hope nor of change would be helped along by defeat.

In our national story, Obama is framed as a practitioner of a kind of anti-politics — an almost naïvely optimistic figure who rose to power downplaying our divisions only to find his administration’s legacy swallowed by them. But his book is a reminder that the inverse story has always been just as true: Obama is thoroughly a politician, and because he understood the depth of our divisions, he treated them gingerly, at times fearfully. In a particularly striking moment, Obama reveals that across the entirety of his presidency, his single largest drop in white support came when he criticized the white police officer who arrested Henry Louis Gates Jr., a Black Harvard professor, on the porch of his own home. “It was support that I’d never completely get back,” Obama writes.

Much in our politics is not what it seems. Contrary to the aesthetics of our current political debate, there is a deep optimism in the confrontational politics of the modern left and a quiet pessimism in the caution with which Obama speaks. To ask the question bluntly: Who truly believes America to be a racist country? The political voices who state that view clearly, because they think Americans can be challenged into change, or the ones who try to avoid even implying the thought, because they fear the power of the backlash?

When I brought up that passage about the Tea Party, Obama was frank in describing his calculations. “One of the ways I would measure it would be: Is it more important for me to tell a basic, historical truth, let’s say about racism in America right now? Or is it more important for me to get a bill passed that provides a lot of people with health care that didn’t have it before?” He admitted that there was “a psychic cost to not always just telling the truth,” and fondly referenced the “Key & Peele” skits about Luther, his anger translator. But he didn’t worry over whether he’d been wrong to bite his tongue.

One thing that occurred to me as we were talking is that Obama’s view of his own political situation echoes the current reality of the Democratic Party. Barack Hussein Obama, a Black man running for office during the era of the War on Terror, understood the deck was stacked against him. If he was going to win, he would need the support of people inclined to view him with suspicion. He would need to not just speak to their hopes, but to defuse their fears. To hear Obama tell it, those fears were not just that too much change would come too fast, but that those who fought that change, or just worried over it, would be judged or cast out.

“People knew I was left on issues like race, or gender equality, and L.G.B.T.Q. issues and so forth,” Obama told me. “But I think maybe the reason I was successful campaigning in downstate Illinois, or Iowa, or places like that is they never felt as if I was condemning them for not having gotten to the politically correct answer quick enough, or that somehow they were morally suspect because they had grown up with and believed more traditional values.”

Democrats, too, face an unforgiving context: Their coalition leans young, urban and diverse, while America’s turnout patterns and electoral geography favor the old, rural and white. According to FiveThirtyEight, Republicans hold a 3.5 point advantage in the Electoral College, a 5-point advantage in the Senate and a 2-point advantage in the House. Even after winning many more votes than Republicans in 2018 and 2020, Democrats are at a 50-50 split in the Senate and have a bare four-seat majority in the House. Odds are that they will lose the House and possibly the Senate in 2022.

This is the fundamental asymmetry of American politics right now: To hold national power, Democrats need to win voters who are right of center; Republicans do not need to win voters who are left of center. Even worse, Republicans control the election laws and redistricting processes in 23 states, while Democrats control 15. The ongoing effort by Texas Republicans to tilt the voting laws in their favor, even as national Republicans stonewall the For The People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, is testament to the consequences of that imbalance.

Most Democrats I know are panicked over the convergence of their geographic disadvantage and the Republican assault on democracy. In my view, they’re right to be. Their situation is dire, and if the Republican Party could reorient itself around more competent candidates, it could become catastrophic. Obama has argued that Senate Democrats should abolish the filibuster and pass the legislation necessary to protect American democracy. I wish they’d listen to him on that. But, as of now, the Democrats’ democracy agenda is imperiled, and so are they.

In our conversation, Obama gamely tried to suggest that there was a bright side to the Democrats’ structural disadvantage. “That does mean Democratic politics is going to be different than Republican politics,” he told me. “Now, look, the good news is, I also think that has made the Democratic Party more empathetic, more thoughtful, wiser by necessity. We have to think about a broader array of interests and people. And that’s my vision for how America ultimately works best and perfects its union.”

In other words, the Democratic Party, like Obama, has been forced into a more pluralistic form of politics by its geographic disadvantages. The 2016 and 2020 elections tell the tale. The Republican Party reacted to Obama by indulging its rage and nominating Donald Trump and won the presidency despite losing the popular vote. The Democratic Party responded to Trump by strategically nominating the candidate they thought had the best chance of winning over Trump voters, Joe Biden, and came perilously close to losing the presidency despite dominating the popular vote.

Toward the end of our conversation, I asked Obama if he still believed you could change people’s politics through policy. He replied with the central what-if of the last decade. “Let’s say a Joe Biden or, the person who was running, Hillary Clinton, had immediately succeeded me, and the economy suddenly has 3 percent unemployment, I think we would have consolidated the sense that, oh, actually these policies that Obama put in place worked,” he said. “The fact that Trump interrupts essentially the continuation of our policies, but still benefits from the economic stability and growth that we had initiated, means people aren’t sure.”

Biden is “essentially finishing the job,” Obama told me. We’ll see. If Joe Biden and the Democrats pass H.R.1 and some version of the American Families and Jobs Plans, then the Obama-Biden approach to politics will have proven itself out. But if they fail to pass H.R.1 or the American Families and Jobs Plans, and then lose the House and Senate in 2022, how open will liberals be to hearing about the virtues of more candidates in the Obama lineage? Not very, I suspect. Coalitions are less emotionally satisfying than confrontations; pluralism doesn’t go nearly as viral as division. The politicians who preach the harder path have to be able to deliver.

Obama knew this full well. “The point was to win,” he writes. “I wanted to prove to Blacks, to whites — to Americans of all colors — that we could transcend the old logic, that we could rally a working majority around a progressive agenda, that we could place issues like inequality or lack of educational opportunity at the very center of the national debate and then actually deliver the goods.”

This is another way in which the reality of our politics defies the aesthetics of our politicians. The true agents of Democratic radicalization right now aren’t leftists in the House but senators like Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, who by indulging Republican obstructionism and preferring the preservation of the filibuster to the protection of democracy, are imperiling the entire theory of politics they claim to support.

Let's be charitable and forgiving of Congressman Trey Dowdy

Well, I received criticism about unflattering descriptions I made about South Carolina Republican Congressman Trey Gowdy, in a blog about the daunting Behghazi Inquisition Committee (BIC) hearings.

Mrs. Clinton certainly rose above the inquisition

On Thursday, October 22, 2015, Congressman Gowdy led a daunting 11 hour inquisition, whereby the BIC relentlessly quesitoned Secretary (and Democratic presidential candidate) Hillary Clinton, about the tragic events of September 11, 2012, when Libyan Ambassador Chris Stephens was murdered, with three of his highly trained security team, in Benghazi.

When I researched Congressman Gowdy's wepage, I found the slogan "South Carolina Strong" as a lead banner.  Gulp! It took me awhile to rise above the plagerism in that image, as I've cut and pasted here. Congressman Gowdy gets and "F" for creativity on this webpage design. Surely, Gowdy can (and should) do better:

Oh paaaaleeeze Congressman Gowdy!  Surely you can do better than this plagerism.

Nevertheless, I'm motivated to follow Mrs. Clinton's professional lead. I'll attempt to rise above the inquisition Congressman Gowdy led, as he and Republican colleagues vainly tried to create another scandal about the Benghazi tragedy. In other words, I apologize to Congressman Gowdy, for comparing him to characters in a Saturday Night Live (SNL) skit along with other imagry.

Likewise, I would expect Congressman Gowdy to apologize to Mrs. Clinton for his committee's inquisition and relentless challenge to her qualified leadership, during the Benghazi hearing.

Bio:
Harold Watson "Trey" Gowdy III is the U.S. Representative for South Carolina's 4th congressional district, a lawyer and former prosecutor. He is a member of the Tea Party (in other words, the right wing) movement within the Republican Party.

Maine's Second District - State Senator Emily Cain for Congress

State Senator Emily Cain is engaged in an important race for US Congress - but the good news is, she's running for office in a district where people get to know their candidates. She lives in Maine's Second District where she's represented her constituents in Penobscot County in the Maine legislature for several years. She's become knows as a neighbor who's willing to fight for her constituents.

Congressman Mike Michaud- D, made the decision to run for Maine governor in 2014, rather than run for re-election to Congress. In so doing, Michaud opened an opportunity for Emily Cain to be Maine's the next Congresswoman.

Of course, Cain must defeat T-Party right wing Republican candidate Bruce Poliquin in the November election.

Batten down the hatches - the negative campaigning will begin at any time.

Fortunately, Emily Cain is quickly building on her favorable ratings among people who know her as a friendly, intelligent, capable legislator and good neighbor to her friends in Orono.

At a meet and greet reception hosted by the American Nurses Association of Maine, Cain visited with guests of the event for over 2 hours, answering questions and posing for photographs.

Most important, Cain explained her position on protecting access to women's health, saving Social Security, and Medicare and support for quality education being available to all.

To help win the 2nd District Maine Congressional seat, State Senator Cain will be engaged in as many face to face meetings as possible, especially in neighborhoods where Franco-American voters live, in Androscoggin County.

Maine's Second District is a large land area with a low population density. Consequently, it doesn't take huge numbers of voters to make a difference in election outcomes.

As a result, it's vitally important for all of Maine's Second District Democratic votes to support State Senator Emily Cain, by planning to support her in the November 2014 election.

Cain's election to Congress will minimize the impact of the T-Party's uncompromising control in public policy.

Maine's Second District election will be heavily financed by the national Republican Party but it's a place in the US where voters get to really know their candidates. With as much face to face meetings as possible, State Senator Emily Cain will win her election to Congress and set back right wing T-Party efforts to control the US Congress. Let's make it happen!

Eliminate the Tea Party with Informed Voter Activism

Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont says right wing Tea Party has caused the US irreparable harm.

“What we have already witnessed is the hijacking of the democratic process by a few dozen extremists in the House who are actively trying to annul the results of the last election. This sets a terrible precedent for the legislative process and will likely be repeated year after year,” he said.

Dear Senator Sanders, I respect your experience and judgement regarding the extremist actions of the right wing Tea Party. Nevertheless, Americans know how to undo the irreparable harm caused  by right wing activism. We must use our democracy to rebuild build our nation as the beacon of hope, and enlightenment and thereby blind the dark forces of extremist regression.

Here's the report from Senator Sanders about the damage caused by the preventable US government shutdown:

“As Vermont's senator, I intend to do everything I can to reopen the government as soon as possible and keep our country from defaulting, which could drive the global economy into economic turmoil,” Sen. Bernie Sanders said on Tuesday. “My fear, however, is that no matter what happens in Congress in the next day or two, serious and long-lasting damage already has been done to our country by the right-wing extremists of the Tea Party.”

Sanders statement came as the government shutdown entered its third week on Tuesday and as a Thursday default deadline loomed unless Congress extends the Treasury Department’s authority to pay bills.

“What we have already witnessed is the hijacking of the democratic process by a few dozen extremists in the House who are actively trying to annul the results of the last election. This sets a terrible precedent for the legislative process and will likely be repeated year after year,” he said.

“What we have already witnessed is the anxiety befalling over 1 million federal employees who are not receiving the paychecks they deserve. Having gone three years without a pay raise, they are now wondering how they will pay their mortgages, their student loans and take care of other basic needs. How many experienced and high-quality federal employees will we be losing as a result of this shutdown? What is the long-term damage to the functioning of the federal government?

“What we have already witnessed is the fear of many of our most vulnerable citizens – the elderly, the sick, veterans, the disabled, Head Start families – that the payments and programs they depend upon may not be there when they need them. Their confidence in their own government to keep the promises and commitments made to them will be forever diminished.

“What we have already witnessed is a blow to our position in the international community. In our foreign relations, we should not be surprised that the United States government is now the laughing stock of the world. Can we really be the ‘strongest country on earth’ when we shut down the government and do not pay our bills? The Chinese, our biggest creditor, are now openly talking about the need to “de-Americanize” international affairs because of the constant brinkmanship by U.S. politicians over the possibility of a debt default.

“The American people are better than this. They deserve a better government,” he said.

My response:  If Tea Party regressive extremists sincerely care about supporting our nation's democracy (but they apparently don't), they would recognize how their minority position is untenable.

Meanwhile, Americans must learn to rout out all extremism in the voting process. It's our civic responsibility, as citizens, to understand how sharing our nation's wealth through income distribution is how Capitalism is supposed to work. Government is supposed to work by the people and for the people.Tea Party activists aren't democratic at all. Rather, they're political terrorists who must be eliminated from having any influence over our democratically elected government.

There's only one way for a democracy to eliminate extremism. Americans must become engaged in supporting voter activism and eliminate extremism by eradicating it in the voting process.

Repubicans - A Political Party that Eats its Young

Washington Post is describing a "Gotham Theory" about the future of the Republican Party. In other words, the confusion and disorganization within the Republican ranks is so profuse, it's best to just stand back and let the entire organization implode, like razing a building to create room for new development.

This theory is too simplistic, because the potentially "new and improved" Republican party, if such a creation is possible, needs to take a course in how democracy works. Understanding the Meaning of Majority Rules is course 101.

My question is this. How does a group of supposedly college educated politicians allow their political party to find itself so confused and disorganized? A political party that can't manage it's message or participate in our American democratic process without causing chaos isn't qualified to hold any status in our nation's democracy. Senator Harry Reid is correct when he described the Republicans who supported the stupid budget sequester, the government shutdown or putting America on the brink of defaulting on our nation's debt as anarchists.  In any other political system, the Tea-Party fringe of right wing extremists who hide beneath the shroud of the Republican Party would be tried for sedition and hanged.

The Washington Post predicts a big showdown looming for the control of the Republican Party in the 2016 presidential election. Although I'm obviously not a soothsayer, I disagree with The Washington Post writer Chris Cillizza. Republicans who care about America, the patriotic people who're intelligent enough to understand how democracy works, wouldn't want to be associated with the ignorant Tea Party zealots between now and 2016.

An up and coming politician wouldn't want to associate with a political party that eats its young. I suspect Governor Christie and other bright Republicans will disassociate themselves with their party and reorganize as a third party.  Given the recent NBC New American Center party, this potential for a middle of the road party has more opportunity to win elections.

Meanwhile, the Tea Party and its followers will go down in history as a group of Ku Klux Klan species survivors who decided to walk in the daylight without hoods. They're haunting and frightening specters of the past, who've come back to life as demons who represent racism, isolationism and McCarthyism.

Republicans must shed themselves of the toxic Tea Party poison before the 2016 election. Rand Paul, Ted Cruz,  Marco Rubio and their gang of bullies must leave the party. That's my op-ed response to The Washington Post.

Obama: 'We Can't Make Extortion Routine As Part of Our Democracy'

Obama did address the concept of using the 14th amendment or a platinum coin to act unilaterally to raise the ceiling.

He was slightly vague, but said that

"Setting aside the legal analysis, what matters is that if you start having a situation in which there's legal controversy about Treasury's authority to issue debt, the damage will have been done even if that were constitutional because people wouldn't be sure. It would be tied up in litigation for a long time. "

This preventable economic crises is caused by right wing extremist zealots who are engaged in treasonous acts to bring down our US government.  They must be held accountable. In any other form of government, they'd be removed, either by a vote of no confidence or hanged.

This terribly daunting fiscal power struggle, driven by a minority of right wing Tea Party politicians to bring down the world's economy for their own selfish intentions, can't succeed. The debt ceiling, a government shutdown and stupid sequester are crises we prayed would never happen when the metaphorical "red" (conservative) and "blue" (progressive) states were identified in political elections. Nevertheless, the inevitable time has arrived when the right wing nuts, who are determined to have their own way, in spite of living in a majority rule democracy, can't be allowed to divide the United States of America.

This is what President Obama said today and he must stick to this message:

At a Tuesday afternoon press conference, the president pushed against the Republican strategy on the government shutdown and the debt-ceiling, saying that he and his party are the ones who have been trying to negotiate, not Republicans. The president pointed to the 19 times that Republicans rejected a conference committee on a budget, saying that Republicans are willing to risk "economic chaos" if they don't get "100 percent" of what they want.

The president also high-lighted the risks of a debt-ceiling breach, saying that "a decision to actually go through with it, to actually permit default, according to many CEOs would be, insane, catastrophic, chaos—these are more polite words."

"Let's lift these threats from our families and our businesses," Obama said, and "get back to work."

Obama opened his White House statement on his earlier phone call with Speaker Boehner. The president said he told the speaker that he's "happy to talk with him and other Republicans about anything," but that he will only negotiate with congressional Republicans over the budget after the threat of a default and the government shutdown have concluded. The president signaled that he'd be willing to negotiate on the tax code, job creation policies, and the Affordable Care Act. This could bring changes in the health care law if Boehner takes up the offer, although it's not clear now how far the president is willing to go. The Speaker has been sticking firm in not allowing a "clean" (void of Obamacare stipulations) continuing resolution to reach the House floor.

Obama also called on Boehner to allow the House to vote on a measure that would extend the debt limit for a year. A clean one-year extension, however, seems like a long-shot right now. Speaker Boehner explicitly ruled out such a plan on Sunday, and certain Republican congressmen believe the administration is bluffing on the threat of the debt limit. The latest public polling shows 47 percent of the country believes the debt ceiling needs to be avoided, though there is a big partisan divide. Fifty-four percent of Republicans think we can pass the deadline "without major problems."

Speaker Boehner and House Republicans, for their part, are set to introduce a bill Tuesday that would establish a panel of House and Senate members to hash out a deal. This plan is already getting hammered as a blueprint for just another "super committee."

It's over. The full conference lasted for a bit over an hour, and aside from the news made by Harry Reid outside of it, we didn't learn much new. And we particularly didn't get any insight on one topic that wasn't raised by any of the reporters in the room: the roll-out of the Affordable Care Act.

UPDATE (3:20 p.m.): Towards the end of the conference, Obama talked about his negotiations with House Republicans and Speaker Boehner back in 2011: "Whenever I see John Boehner, to this day, I say, 'Shoulda taken the deal that I offered back then.'" If that's literally true, we imagine it could help to explain why the two don't get along better. That conversation could get repetitive.

UPDATE (3:05 p.m.): Asked about the possibility of a new "super committee" to come up with a budget, agreement, the president didn't immediately throw out the idea:

"I know that Speaker Boehner has talked about setting up some new processor some new super committee or what have you. The leaders up in congress can work through whatever processes they want. But the bottom line is ... you're having good faith negotiations in which there's give and take or you're not. "

At the same time, Obama dismissed some of the rumored parameters of the committee, saying that he isn't sure why Democrats would agree to a negotiation only on Republican terms.

UPDATE (3:05 p.m.): Obama, in his opening statement, attempted to describe the current situation in a way that many Americans could relate to: "You don't get a chance to call your bank and say I'm not going to pay my mortgage this month unless you throw in a new car and an Xbox." Conservatives and journalists, however, quickly mocked the Xbox line, on Twitter.

UPDATE (3:02 p.m.): In an otherwise pat bit of political speak about how "compromise" is not a dirty word, the president said that though he has flaws, an inability to compromise is not one of them. "I've been willing to compromise my whole political career."

UPDATE (2:56 p.m.): In other news... While the president was speaking, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced his plans to introduce a clean debt ceiling bill to the Senate later on Tuesday.

UPDATE (2:54 p.m.): Speaking about Citizens United and the state of U.S. politics, the president tried his hand at diagnosing how the U.S. has gotten into this political situation:

"A big chunk of the Republican right now are in gerrymandered districts where there's no competition. And those folks are much more worried about a tea party challenger than a general election…and in that environment, it's a lot harder for them to compromise."

UPDATE (2:48 p.m.): Hitting back on the idea that the Treasury Department has "other rabbits in [their] hat" to prevent a debt default, the president said that the department has already just about used up all the "extraordinary measures" available.

"There are no magic bullets here," he said.

UPDATE (2:42 p.m.): The president tried to also make an oft-touted Democratic point that a "clean" budget already includes the sequestration "meat cleaver" cuts. Those cuts, Obama said, have already hurt thousands of families with cuts to Head Start. The shutdown just makes that worse.

UPDATE (2:38 p.m.): Obama, responding to a question, tried to speak to the people--including members of Congress--who don't view a debt-ceiling breach as a big deal:

"What I have to remind them is, we have a lot of other obligations, not just people who pay treasury bills. We have senior citizens counting on their social security arriving on time. We have veterans who are disabled who are counting on their benefits."

And to, you know, draw a clear line: "It is a big deal."

UPDATE (2:36 p.m.): The president, speaking about what would happen if Congress does not raise the debt-limit, made things personal:

"I say, imagine in your private life, if you decided that I'm not going to pay my mortgage for a month or two—first of all you're not saving money by not paying your mortgage. You're just a dead beat. And you can anticipate that will hurt your credit. "

"Which means that in addition to debt collectors calling, you're going to have trouble borrowing in the future. In you're able to borrow in future, it will be a higher rate. What's true for individuals is also true for nations, even the most powerful nation on earth. "

Frank T. Kyrza in The Economist - How US Government Shutdown Impacts the World

The Economist - shutting down government an act of international sabotage.

Does Shutting Down The US Mean Shutting Down The World?

Frank T. Kryza Writer and Editor

With the US government in shutdown again, there's not just bemusement in capitals across Europe and Asia, but a growing sense of angst. If the current deadlock extends to October 17, and a congressional refusal to raise the debt ceiling triggers a US default, the impact will be instant and international. What, for the Tea Party caucus will be a gesture about excessive federal spending, will do to the rest of the world will be an act of sabotage inflicted on the global economic system.

Frank Kryza is receiving feedback on his blogs in The Economist. Tea-Party zealots who are a minority in our US government can't be allowed to control the world's economy just because these political extremists happen to disagree with government spending. Meanwhile, Tea Party ultra conservative proposals ie "shutdown government" harms people and doesn't save any money. In fact, the shutdown costs money and hurts people. This selfishness could extend to impacting the world's economy as well.

Tea Party zealots must understand how minority rule by bullying tactics is not democracy. Now, they're trying to convince Americans how their right wing economic tactics ie "shutdown" is not really so dangerous. It's like asking the Peanuts character Lucy to stop playing that stupid football trick on Charlie Brown.
How poor Charlie falls for this trick every fall is a mystery, but the Tea Party is trying the same foil on Americans, only this time it's about our economy and it's obviously not funny. Kyrza says it's international sabotage.

Americans must vote all Republicans out of office. Meanwhile, House Speaker John Boehner must exert leadership over extremists in his Republican party by calling for a continuing resolution majority vote to stop the shutdown madness, eliminate the stupid sequester and to lift the debt ceiling so America will pay it's bills.

Meanwhile, quoting Republican Governor Jindal (R-LA), the "stupid party" started a denial campaign, trying to downplay the impact of their economic "shutdown" radicalism. But, these "stupid" people don't believe in science like creation theories or human physiology like rape causing pregnancy! Americans must never be led to believe these Tea Party obstructions understand macro economics either.

Republican Government Shutdown is a Nightmare - What Would President Romney Do?

It's obvious Republicans in Congress don't believe in Democracy because, otherwise, they would figure out, with basic arithmetic, how their party lost the 2012 Presidential election.

In other words, there won't be a President Mitt Romney because he and the Republican Party lost the presidential election.

One reason the Republicans lost is because Mr. Romney said the first thing he'd do would be to repeal the health care reform law called "Obamacare".

It was one of Gov. Mitt Romney's favorite pledges on the campaign trail: "If elected, I will repeal Obamacare on day one."  However, even as Romney ranted on this theme, a range of analyses by political and healthcare think tanks suggested it would be difficult for Romney to erase the landmark Affordable Care Act.

Nevertheless, Tea Party Republicans don't pay attention to much of anything the experts say. Right wing zealots are so narcissistic they just love to listen to themselves. Now, they're frenzied in an obsessive-compulsive disorder about repealing Obamacare, regardless of whether or not they can really do it, or not.

Tea Party zealots are in a psychotic denial about their candidate Governor Romney losing the election to President Obama, whose signature legislation, of course, is Obamacare.

These Tea Party zealots are a minority of dangerously misguided miscreants who hold fast to their entrenched hostage taking approach to governing, because they don't like Obamacare.

They're allowed to do this. In our Democracy, where protests are allowed, Tea Party zealots are determined to abuse their right to free speech, causing harm to the entire nation because of their terrorizing tactics. In their demented thinking, it's fine to abuse the right to free speech, even if a majority of the nation voted against conservative Romney. Their arithmetic is screwed up, because Tea Party zealots act like they've contracted a Napolean syndrome, whereby their minority position takes on visions of grandeur.

Maybe, if Romney had received the most votes and won the 2012 Presidential election, our nation would conceivably be controlled by these zealots and, thereby, this current shutdown would be a non-issue. They would probably have selectively shut down government and repealed Obamacare immediately. No democratic government would have prevented them from a takeover of government, on day one, of a Romney administration.

It's likely a Romney presidency would have jump started a national shut down by simply closing the government, piece by piece, including repeal of Obamacare. In the current preventable shutdown, we see Romney's goals, including the repeal, being driven by a minority, who are doing what their candidate was unable to do in the Executive branch of government.

It's absolutely frightening to consider how Romney would have governed. Imagine if Democrats in the Senate tried to obstruct a Romney agenda with a simply majority vote?  There's no way Republicans would have tolerated this behavior.

It is obvious the Republicans are driving this government shutdown because they are miffed about the outcome of the 2012 election whereby President Obama won and Obamacare moved forward.
These same right wing Republicans would never tolerate similar bully behavior if Romney were president.

Tea Party zealots clearly use our Democracy to their advantage but they don't believe in it unless it serves their selfish ends.

A Tea Party run government would be like living under tyranny.
Therefore, the majority of people in our Democracy can't allow this take over of government to succeed, regardless of the consequences.

In a democracy, a majority sets the agenda. Tea Party zealots are the enemy within us and they must be removed from office for practicing sedition.

Moreover, these zealots must never be voted into power because, frankly, their bully tactics are tyrannical and their approach to politics is to create fear rather than trust in government.

Republicans are to Blame for the Preventable Government Shutdown

It seems like the Tea Party obstructionists aren't working for "We the People", anymore. Instead, they're boasting for "them the Tea Party" and to hell with everybody  else.

There's absolutely no reason, whatsoever, for the American government in shutdown today, Tuesday Oct. 2nd.

Americans are in this horrific political situation because the Tea Party is controlling the House of Representatives, and they're just plain crazy zealots.

Republican Tea Party right wingers, who are in the minority of one house, in one third of the federal government, (they're really the radical Ku Klux Klan sans hoods) are holding the government hostage by preventing a continuing budget resolution, just because they don't like a health care reform law called Obamacare.

Meanwhile, the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare began beneficiary enrollment on October 1st, the day the Tea Party minority voted to shut down government.

This shut down is irresponsible and should be illegal.

If the Tea Party radicals were law abiding Americans, they'd move beyond their entrenched obsession with Obamacare. Instead, they'd tackle big picture issues. Tea Party congressional zealots should focus, instead, on what they're paid to do, like oversee the national defense, fairness in revenue sharing and upholding the United States Constitution for "We the people....".

It's totally irrational, in a Democracy, for a Tea Party minority to re-write "We the People", for "them the Tea Party".

It seems like the Tea Party thinks the US Constitution is a convenient document to use whenever Second Amendment Rights to own guns are at risk for being modified, to protect Americans dying by gun violence at a faster rate than by many diseases.

Oh no. Americans can't touch Second Amendment rights.

Nevertheless, Tea Party obsessives seem to think the right of Americans to be protected by lots of other laws seems irrelevant. They're crazy. In fact, Obamacare might even help these mentally ill zealots to pay for medication, to help alleviate their obsessive symptoms.

Let's be crystal clear about why our government is in a damaging shut down. It's because obsessive compulsive Republican Tea Party zealots are too selfish to obey the Obamacare law.

These crazy Tea Party people can plead innocent by reason of insanity to disobeying the implementation of the Obamacare law.

But, maybe, they can simply accept "Obamacare" as the Constitutional law passed by "We the People", just in case medication does' t heal their obsession.

Republican Alert! Government Shutdown Costs Money: Ronald Reagan Quote on Ideology

Republicans usually tremble, tremble, tremble at the mention of President Ronald Reagan.

So, here's a quote, they'll likely faint after reading:

"No mother would ever willingly sacrifice her sons for territorial gain, for economic advantage, for ideology." Likewise, I doubt any sane son or daughter would willingly sacrifice their mother for ideology, either. http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/keywords/ideology.html#2VCPIelLyRqxOd8H.99
Okay, Republican ideologues, how do you justify sacrificing our US government operations, the "mother" of our nation, for the sake of your minority opinion ideologies (there are too many to mention)?

Honestly, I don't know whether to be angry at the Republicans or at the American people, in general, for putting up with idiots who somehow get elected to Congress and then want to shove their right wing ideology down our throats. Now, these obsessed politicians want to dismantle our government.

Hello? Our US Constitution wasn't written to fly in the face of voters only when right wing zealots want to protect Second Amendment gun rights!

Congress is supposed to to support all the laws.

Now, a minority of right wing Congressional Republicans are intent, like Kamikaze Pilots, to shut down our government, rather than to uphold the law passed in health care reform. In my mind, this is seditious behavior and they should be punished.

Moreover, Republicans have shamefully failed arithmetic, yet again. GOP right wing zealots are earning their labels as the "stupid party" by continuing to act dumb, because shutting down government wastes money. By the way, the GOP doesn't deserve to be called Grand Old Party, anymore. They've earned the title of Grumpy Old Party, instead. They want to shut down government, harming hard working people as a result, just because they can. They're the spoiled bully thugs hiding behind their mommies skirts in the school yard. Their "mommies" are House Speaker John Boehner, a puppet of the Tea-Party and Texas Senator Ted Cruz. Surely, these idiots must not understand how much their zealotry is costing taxpayers. "Wonklblog" pundit Ezra Klein and others are reporting how the suicidal launch to obstruct government, by shutting it down to prevent implementation of Obamacare (health care reform) will cost taxpayers billions of wasted dollars.

A government shutdown will cost us billions

By Ezra Klein, Published: September 23 at 12:37 pmE-mail the writer

To understand what Congress is risking every time it nears a shutdown, consider what the past ones have cost. In 1996, the Office of Management and Budget tallied the two major shutdowns of the decade at about $1.4 billion. Adjusting for inflation would bring that total to more than $2 billion in today’s dollars. But as an analysis (pdf) by Roy Meyers, a political scientist at the University of Maryland, found, that estimate left out a lot. It didn’t account for the lost value of work that wasn’t done or the $300 million the federal parks would have taken in or the reduced pace of IRS audits. And then there are the less visible consequences. Meyers suggests that contractors might start charging the government a premium after shutdowns to compensate for the uncertainty of their payments. And a large body of work shows that unstable budget processes at the state level raise borrowing costs, meaning some of the costs are permanent, or at least long-lived.

Even getting near a shutdown costs money. The government must prepare, and that means a lot of hours spent on nothing useful. “You have to pull people off whatever they’re doing to inform employees about what they can do and when they can come in,” said Stan Collender, a budget expert at Qorvis communications. “You have to prepare to change the Web sites with new information about what to do during the shutdowns. You have additional security costs for the buildings because you have to lock them up so no one can get in. You have additional maintenance costs in terms of heating and cooling. And let’s say you’re a supplier who is supposed to deliver parts to the government on Oct. 2. What do you do?”

Okay, Ezra, I'll tell you what to do.

These contractors and everybody else negatively impacted by a government shut down (nearly everybody in America) must vote these stupid GOP party people out of office. If a government contractor can't deliver parts, then the person making the products obviously won't be paid, either. In my mind, that's illegal. Moreover, ask the government contractor to tell his/her suppliers to join in a rebellion, call a special election or another Constitutional Assembly in Philadelphia - (the building is still open, isn't it?) for the purpose of removing every dumb and dumber government ideologue out of office!

Even worse than being dumb is not knowing how to solve a problem. Dumb and dumber Republicans are carrying on like cats in mating season about Obamacare and the cost of government, but offer zero solutions. They're completely void of ideas. Their misplaced energy is engulfed in unfounded zealotry.

Try asking a Republican what they don't like about health care reform, aka "Obamacare" (if they'll let you get a word in edgewise) and they're likely to say they don't want anymore government run programs. Then, after they've predictably said that, ask them to tell you where they earn a living? There's a better than 50/50 chance these zealots earn money off the same government they want to shut down.

Hypocrisy 101 is a subject wheres stupid Republicans might get a passing grade.

President Obama once taught college courses in Constitutional law at the University of Chicago law school.

Surely, Obama knows how his executive leadership is essential at this time, when a government shutdown is looming, because some in Congress won't enforce the Federal Law in Obamacare. President Obama must lead Americans out of this ideological sea of right wing extremism and enforce the Obamacare law without holding government operations hostage to do so.

Meanwhile, Americans may not be able to wait for the next election to rid ourselves of seditious members of Congress who want to bring down government, because they want to break the law. They must be removed for violation of their oath of office, which is to uphold the US Constitution, including Federal Laws. Maybe, President Ronald Reagan's quote on ideology should be included in this solemn oath, presuming the dumb and stupid Republican can read, understand and remember it.

Costly Government Shut Down and the Tea Party's Tyrant Influence

Tyrants are people who exercise power oppressively, like the Tea Party.

Clearly, Tea Party right wing Republican extremists are tyrants. They're imploring oppressive and undemocratic pressure on the government to leverage a federal shut down for the purpose of oppressively forcing repeal of the health care reform law, known as Obamacare, just because they happen not to like it.

It's completely unclear to me how Republicans get away with this tyrannical behavior, when we live in a democracy where Obamacare was voted into law by a majority of the people's Congress. Subsequently, the law was also upheld by the US Supreme Court as a Constitutional law.

Even more repressive, the Tea Party zealots are costing tax payers lots of money by using obstructionist tactics to get their tyrannical way. Here's why:

1.  Obamacare is currently being operationalized by hundreds of health care organizations and insurers who are preparing to implement the law on October 1, 2013, and provide January 1, 2014 insurance coverage. Any delay or unfunding of this momentum will cost tax payers and insurance beneficiaries money in opportunities cost, because the implementation cannot pay in 2015 (the proposed delay) with 2013 money.  In other words, unfunding will require preparation to cease, a cost in and of itself, and re-implementing will be more costly in 2015, after the price is adjusted for inflation.

2.  Much of the Obamacare law is already implemented.  Do Tea Party zealots mean to roll back that which is already in place?  If so, this is plain crazy because how does one take a 23 year old off of a parental insurance policy if they don't have other coverage? Does the Tea Party really mean to remove children with chronic health care needs off of their parents health care plans?  Really?

3.  Obamacare is law. Therefore, the President of the United States must do whatever is necessary to implement and uphold the law. There's at least one precedent for a President's to uphold the law in the face of obstructionism. Do Tea Party zealots remember when President Dwight Eisenhower used federal troops to escort Negro children into racially desegregated schools, after the US Supreme Court upheld the landmark Brown versus the Board of Education ruling?  Upholding Obamacare may require President Barack Obama to prevent the shut down of government against obstructionism by Tea Party zealots, because their tyrannical tactics are focused on destroying our national economy for the purpose of bringing down a federal law. Obviously, I'm not a Constitutional lawyer like President Obama, but it seems to me the intent of closing down the government is to obstruct implementation of a federal law, which requires executive intervention.  In other words, President Obama must keep the government open and implement Obamacare, overriding the minority influence of the tyrannical Tea Party. In my opinion, people will welcome this high level of intervention if it means our nation will pay bills already incurred and allows Obamacare to move forward as required. All the above is costly in time and enforcement, while tax payers pay the bill

Tea Party zealots screech like cats mating when they see the government spending money to help people with important programs like Food Stamps, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans and Unemployment benefits. Nevertheless, they have no morals, whatsoever, when wasting money to break the health care reform law.

It seems like hypocrisy and tyrannical behavior go hand in hand.

Tyrants have always been an ugly part of the human condition, but at some point, ethical and legal leadership must restrain their undue influence. It's time President Obama takes action on behalf of the law. As as Commander in Chief, he must exert Executive leadership to keep our government from shutting down. In doing what's right, and anti-tyrannical, President Obama will prevent the harm and cost caused by closing down government and protect the implementation of the Obamacare law.

A value added to doing what's right and Constitutionally justified is the elimination of the undue influence of the tyrannical Tea Party. This will save the government the money wasted by Tea Party obstructionists, who are obsessed with undermining our democracy for the sake of forcing their unlawfully zealous agenda.

Please Do Not Shut Down the Government - Treat Your Obamacare Psychosis Instead

"..the Tea Party Is Out of Whack",  writes Brad Bannon in US News and World Report.

Although the Tea Party accuses President Obama of, somehow, being "out of sync (an ambiguous concept, in my opinion), the right wing Tea Party is plain whacked out of ideas about to move America forward.

Therefore, void of innovation and idea-less, Tea Party zealots simply want to shut down the entire nation. This seditious behavior should be unconstitutional because, frankly, shutting down our US government is traitorous behavior, punishable by death.

Tea Party right wing extremism is corrupting our democracy.

Tea Party "dunkers" don't want to follow the law of health care reform passed in Obamacare, in spite of it being ratified by the people's Congress and the US Supreme Court.

Dear Tea Party - outside of your own cacophony, do you hear those of us who are pleading for you to stop this wasteful obstructionism against Obamacare? Your extremism over an obsession about health care reform is wasting tax payer money.  After 40 unsuccessful Congressional votes failed to repeal the Obamacare law, your rights as Americans to petition the government have crossed the sanity line and are now become a pathological obsession.

Maybe, Obamacare would even pay for curable treatment.

On behalf of all American people who get up and work for a living by caring for our nation's citizens, in the US military and national security agencies, as well as for those who depend on their earned Social Security income to pay their bills, please don't shut down Government.

Instead, find a physician who can treat your obsessive-compulsive Obamacare-psychosis and keep our government open.

It's even possible for Tea Party sufferers from Obamacare-psychosis to request an insanity defense at your sedition trials.

Tea Party Should be Registered as Anti-Party

Right Wing Tea Party supporters must be thrilled about Fox News reporting a growing support for this extremist group

Unfortunately, the group is, incredulously, becoming more mainstream.  They're an "anti" party. Does anybody know what they support?  Without their "anti" agenda, the Tea Party has no meaning.

Tea Partiers were dismissed as a fringe, but two new polls suggest the conservative movement might be going mainstream.

A Rasmussen poll released Monday found more Americans identify with the Tea Party groups than with President Obama.

According to the survey, 48 percent of voters said the average Tea Party activist is more aligned with their views on major issues than the president. Forty-four percent said Obama's views are closer to theirs.   In other words, an increasing number of Americans are "Tea Party" sympathizers, who are against the progressive agenda in opposing those who want to protect Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Health Care Reform and important social safety nets.

That came on top of a USA Today/Gallup poll that found more than a quarter of Americans affiliate themselves with the Tea Party movement.
Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/04/06/tea-party-going-mainstream-polls-suggest-movement-gaining-popularity/#ixzz2VCViodHc
Why?

Apparently, an increasing number of Americans identify with the negative themes promoted by Tea Party supporters.  A few examples:

1.  Immigration:  In spite of an overwhelming number of Americans who are descendants of immigrants, the Tea Party won't share the American Dream of our ancestors with other groups.  Instead, they prefer to reduce immigrants to the status of Colonial Era indentured servants.

2.   Health Care Reform:  In spite of the United States being among a small group of wealthy civilized countries without a national health program, the Tea Party supporters still oppose Health Care Reform and the 2010 Affordable Care Act. This is totally hypocritical because Health Care Reform provides more Americans with access to insurance coverage, an insurance they will pay for, because the rates will be affordable!  Tea Party supporters want people to pay their own way for everything, so why not bring down the cost of health insurance coverage, so more people can afford to buy coverage?  Collateral damage of the Health Care Reform law, sadly, has provided a feeding frenzy for the Tea Party "anti" movement. There's absolutely no reason for the Tea Party "anti" health care reform position. Nevertheless, the Tea Party opposes progressive health care reform, because they prefer being "anti", regardless of good reasons to support it.

3.  Education - In spite of the number of Tea Party activists who likely benefited from tax payer supported public schools, where they learned to read, their right wing position appears to oppose paying for the education of others with tax revenues.  Why?

4.  Taxes- In spite of right wing support for strong national defense, anti-terrorism and zealous American patriotism, the Tea Party opposes supporting a strong government with tax revenues.
How else do Tea Party supporters expect to pay for a national defense system, for vigilant anti-terrorism surveillance and to protect the American brand of freedom, without tax revenue? Their hypocritical position on taxes make no sense.

5.  Guns - In spite of the Second Amendment of the US Constitution, giving the right to Americans to own colonial era guns and muskets, being adopted over 200 years ago, in 1789, the Tea Party insists this privilege in nearly as inalienable as life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  It's impossible for a person to be "pro-life" and "pro-gun".  I've often asked for data about how many Tea Party activists are also pro-life supporters?  It seems to me, anyone "pro-gun" cannot also be "pro-life".   Although I don't know how many Tea Party supporters are pro-life,   I know they are definitely anti-gun regulations.  In my opinion, this contrary position shows how the Tea Party is, logically speaking, anti-life.

Tea Party "anti" positions create a sad statement about our American electorate.  What did the 2012 election and Obama victory stand for?  We clearly voted to re-elect President Barack Obama to be our Presidential leader. Yet, an increasing number of us seem to share the values of an "anti" group, a right wing fringe, that opposes many of President Obama's progressive ideas.

Maybe, the real problem with the "anti" movement of the Tea Party is among Americans who sit back, while this right wing fringe gains momentum.  It's time an "anti" Tea Party movement opposes the right wing "anti" progressive agenda.  Let's "anti" the Tea Party, by reversing their growing momentum, before their movement is more than a group against immigration, health care reform, education, taxes and gun regulations.

Let's reverse their influence before they are "anti" us.

Republican Party - Life or Life Support After the 2012 Election?

Trolling the Internet found two postings that made the reality of a soon to be extinct Republican party seem likely.

What will happen to the GOP, post the upcoming 2012 election, if trends continue toward a major party defeat

Barring horribly unforeseen circumstances (which might be too terrible to speculate), the conservative bastion of American democracy seems to be floating off the deep end, like boxes of tea cast into Boston Harbor during the 1773 rebellion.

For example, in learning that the liberal
MSNBC news anchor Rachael Maddow grew up in a conservative Roman Catholic home, I was amused by this quote posted on her Wikepedia bio:
"Asked about her political views...Maddow replied, "I'm undoubtedly a liberal, which means that I'm in almost total agreement with the Eisenhower Era..."   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Maddow

Maddow's reflection of a nostalgic political time past, long before Maddow was even born (1973), is an indication that the party of this by gone era is as deceased as the great General Eisenhower (1890-1969).  Heroic Eisenhower was a political and military savior, having breathed life into the GOP, saving it from extinction after four consecutive Democratic administrations had put the conservative movement on life support.  But, the political party Eisenhower saved is not the extremist party it morphed into. Eisenhower could not have envisioned a political party that didn't want to compromise or pay taxes.  Thank goodness, Eisenhower was able to create our nation's interstate highway system with tax revenues and by claiming the property necessary for the project, by using the governments power of "imminent domain".  Indeed, Eisenhower's Republicans party sounds like Democrats to me......

Another example of how the demise of the Republicans, as we know (or knew) them, might be imminent is in the way Governor Mitt Romney was unable to manage his campaign for the Presidency without ingratiating himself to extremists.  When Republican Governor Romney was the leader of Massachusetts, a decidedly liberal, bluer than blue, state, he was a moderate.  As Massachusetts governor, he was pro-choice and passed the nation's model health care reform law, a.k.a. "Obamacare".  This sure sounds more Democrat than Republican to me. Right?

But, what happened when Governor Romney began running for 2012 President?  He became a puppet of wealthy campaign contributors like the Koch Brothers and right wing Tea-Party conservatives, who squelched Romney's style, so the real candidate is like a political turtle. He won't stick his head out or display a moderate political past, for fear he'll be shunned at the polls.

Romney missed his "Sister Souljah Moment" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sister_Souljah_moment.

Rather than rise up when right wing radio mouth piece Rush "Bimbaugh" Limbaugh slandered a Georgetown University law student for exercising her right to free speech when she spoke to Congress about contraception, Romney head for the proverbial hills and found a cave to hide in.  Although this moment of political weakness was cowardly, the worst was yet to come when Romney didn't screech at the top of his lungs in outrage about Missouri  Representative Todd Akin, who disgustingly created a new and disgusting concept called "legitimate rape".

Cowardly Romney moments are reported in a recent Washington Post op-ed by Fareed Zakaria, who says Romney is avoiding confronting his right wing base.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/fareed-zakaria-romney-is-the-gops-pretzel-candidate/2012/09/26/728b35ea-080a-11e2-afff-d6c7f20a83bf_story.html?wpisrc=nl_opinions

Maybe, Romney is a coward.  Perhaps that's the unflattering character trait that drove Romney to do missionary work in France when he was eligible to serve his country in the Viet Nam War (ahhh, France?  Viet Nam?- he chose France, where he wound up involved in a controversial automobile accident where the outcomes are still unexplained).

A 2007 New York Times article described the situation like this:

"There were six people in a car that would comfortably seat five, but otherwise it was an ordinary drive that happened to turn tragic.
On the way back from Pau (France), the car was hit head-on and Anderson's wife, Leola, was killed. Anderson's driver, a 21-year-old missionary named Mitt Romney, is now a leading candidate for the Republican nomination for president of the United States, with the June 16, 1968, accident one of his rare dark moments. Romney, who was seriously injured in the crash and was momentarily feared dead, has long said there was nothing he could have done to avoid the tragedy."

Obviously, the auto accident is absolutely not a political issue but the details of the incident have never been resolved and probably won't be.  It's history.

Nonetheless, what's politically important is whether or not Romney is capable of being President of the United States when his behavior throughout this campaign has been erratic.  Are Romney's labile responses to crucial events the result of his 1968 documented head injury?  It's a rhetorical question, of course, but the public needs to know about this medical history.

Getting back to the point, what's the future of the Republican party? What's to become of the Grand Old Party, if they become "ground on partisanship", so ingrained that they're incapable of governing?

Clearly, Governor Romney, the undisputed leader of the GOP, is completely incapable of reigning in his political party extremists.

Rachel Maddow Democrats, those who might join in her thinking of the Grand Old Party of Dwight Eisenhower as their political preference, will need to find a politically safe place.

Hopefully, Governor Romney's presidential 2012 campaign will collapse under the weight of incompetence. Of course, this outcome presumes the current polling trends continue and states will eliminate the illegal promulgation of voter suppression regulations.

Although pundits are giving Romney the "doesn't he look good" mortuary greeting, this election isn't over until it's over.

When Romney's campaign is finally declared "dead", I predict the Grand Old Party will slide into the political morgue drawer right next to the graveyard of campaign buttons and dried up balloons.

In other words, it's time America finds a new "Eisenhower" to lead a political movement of centrists, who care about projects like expanding America's transportation infrastructure, maintenance for schools, and public safety facilities and providing health care for everyone, regardless of their ability to pay.

Republicans as we know them today, a flailing party of extremists, will soon be history - just like the 1773 tea in Boston Harbor.

Tea Parties in the Park

National Tea Party protests took place in over 800 locales - but it's where they are held, on tax payers' property, that really gets me angry.

Most of these Tea Parties attract right wing extremists who are running out of good ideas about how to help America.

Rather, these people are going back to the future - the colonial times, to be precise. Too bad they can't come up with an original idea about how to move a grass roots effort forward. Instead, they are making a mockery of our democracy by plagiarizing colonial rebellion.

Moreover, these extremists are protesting in parks, in front of the Alamo in San Antonio, and places where nice people want to enjoy being outdoors - on tax supported public property.

They're taking over public places where American tax dollars are used to support the very tea parties where these participants are carrying on about taxes.

It's like saying, "Hey, Mom, I'm leaving home because you don't love me anymore," and going outside to sleep in the family car. You haven't accomplished anything.

In fact, where would tea party participants go if we stopped paying for public parks with tax money? It gets pretty cold sitting in the family car and it doesn't get you any attention, either.

These tea parties need to go where the problem really exists - on Wall Street. Otherwise, please, leave our tax paid for public parks out of the television cameras. You tea party extremists are desecrating our tax payers rights to enjoy the benefits earned by paying taxes.

In other words, tea party folks should quit whining - stop being hypocritical, just because you don't like who won the last Presidential election.
