Donald Trump creating Mutually Assured Destruction mentality: MAD

Donald Trump  has insisted on opening Pandora's Box and has caused the world to blame the US if there is a nuclear war: Mutually Assured Destruction: MAD
The Des Moines Register - Echo letter to the editor: Nuclear is not rhetoric from which the world can survive

ANKENY, Iowa- I am a retired chemical officer and my specialty in the Army was the control of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons. At the time I retired, we decided that for the good of all mankind, including those that did not agree with our policies or political stance, that MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) was the logical approach to prevent a nuclear war, not provoke one.

The use of nuclear weapons would ensure the total destruction of life on our planet, in which case no side wins. But for some reason, President Donald Trump has opened the Pandora's box and has threatened to use nuclear weapons to control North Korea.

Even the most die-hard followers of Donald Trump have got to see that his threat of "fire and fury" is totally MAD. North Korea is not worth the use of nuclear weapons.

There is no such thing as a limited nuclear exchange. Nuclear weapons do not know enemy from friendly countries, they do not respect boundaries on the ground or in the air. The radiation will kill anyone and everyone.

For the president to casually make threats about using nuclear weapons shows that he is unfit to be commander-in-chief of the United States military. Congress needs to take action now to prevent more flippant remarks that could lead to a war with North Korea.
