Prophesy and the US Mid Term Elections

Prophesy is a good way for newspaper pundits to get attention.

Some practice prophesy when it comes to predictions about a Republican right wing take over of the US Congress in the nation's November 2010 mid term elections.

New York Times columnist E.J. Dionne says a tsunami is on the horizon for Democrats. Peggy Noonan of the Wall Street Journal writes, "How Do You Stop An Elephant Charging?" http://online.wsj.com/article/declarations.html.

Well, here's my prediction, made without resorting to cataclysmic metaphors: We need another metaphor. Democrats must get off their asses and tell American voters why they are so angry. Voters have reasons to feel skepticism and concern, but the anger is being fed by lies - about health care, about President Obama's citizenship and religion (he is an American born Christian!) and how we are somehow going to loose our rights to Freedom of Speech and to bear arms as guaranteed to us in the US Constitution - these lies are growing like weeds among the uninformed electorate.

Democrats need not face an election of "no confidence" if they stand up to the unabated lies perpetrated in the negative lame stream media (I resent using a Sarah Palin media concept, she invented it, but - yes, even a broken clock gives the right time twice a day).

Democrats must use their considerable campaign monies to fight the enemy of democracy, i.e., right wing extremism, and counter the election predictions driven by anger stirred up in the voting public. I'm convinced the "no drama Obama" administration is not serving Democrats who must use a simple law of physics to counter the prevailing prophesies about a Republican right wing take over. In other words, fight back lies and right wing extremism with a force equal to the venom spewed by conservative negative spin egotists like Sarah Palin, Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh.

Hilary Clinton labeled this band of extremists "the vast right wing conspiracy". She used her First Lady bully pulpit, at the time, as a force against extremists who were perennially stirring up trouble for her and President Clinton's administration.

When President Harry Truman was challenged by Republicans, he labeled them the "do nothing Congress!".

We need a slogan to counter the prophesies of a right wing take over of our country.

Right Wing Extremists are RWE's - "really weird egotists". Worse, they concoct cauldrons of negativity, infecting our country with black smoke, perpetrating lies faster than a computer virus.

Maine's Democratic Congressman Mike Michaud said the single most common sense statement in a short speech he gave recently at a political rally - he said Democrats must get energized. Yes, Congressman Michaud is correct. But the force for this energy must begin today. Let's stop this nonsense of the inevitable, about a RWE takeover of our country. Rather, let's change the course of prophesy with Democratic action!

Peggy Noonan's elephant metaphor could become a stampede of donkeys!
