Military leaders pushing 'Armageddon views' on troops as Iran war begins: complaint pulished in RawStory by Travis Gettys.

A combat-unit commander told non-commissioned officers Monday that the Iran war was part of God's plan to usher in the End Times and bring about Jesus Christ's second coming, according to a complaint filed with a religious freedom watchdog.

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) has fielded more than 110 similar complaints about commanders in every branch of the U.S. military between the war's start on Saturday morning and Monday night, reported journalist Jonathan Larson on his Substack page, and the group told him the complaints came from more than 40 different units stationed in at least 30 military installations.

"These calls have one damn thing in freaking common; our MRFF clients [service members who seek MRFF aid] report the unrestricted euphoria of their commanders and command chains as to how this new 'biblically-sanctioned' war is clearly the undeniable sign of the expeditious approach of the fundamentalist Christian 'End Times' as vividly described in the New Testament Book of Revelation," said MRFF President and Founder Mikey Weinstein, a veteran of the Air Force and the Reagan White House.

"Many of their commanders are especially delighted with how graphic this battle will be zeroing in on how bloody all of this must become in order to fulfill and be in 100 percent accordance with fundamentalist Christian end of the world eschatology," Weinstein added.

Weinstein pointed out prohibitions in the U.S. Constitution and the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) against inserting religious beliefs into official military instruction or messaging, and a non-commissioned officer who filed a complaint with MRFF said their commander's comments "destroy morale and unit cohesion."

"This morning our commander opened up the combat readiness status briefing by urging us to not be 'afraid' as to what is happening with our combat operations in Iran right now," that non-commissioned officer said in a complaint filed Monday. "He urged us to tell our troops that this was 'all part of God’s divine plan' and he specifically referenced numerous citations out of the Book of Revelation referring to Armageddon and the imminent return of Jesus Christ."
"He said that 'Donald Trump has been anointed by Jesus🤥  to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth,'" the complaint continued. "He had a big grin on his face when he said all of this which made his message seem even more crazy."

"Our commander would probably be described as a 'Christian First' supporter," the complaint added. "He has been this way for a very long time and makes it clear that he desires all of us under him to become just like him as a Christian. But what he did this morning was so toxic and over the line that it shocked many of us in attendance at the ops readiness briefing."

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has elevated a Christian nationalism theology that has simmered within the military for decades, Larson wrote, and he attends a weekly White House Bible study session led by right-wing pastor Ralph Drollinger, who preaches support for Israel is required by the Scriptures.

"Some Christians claim biblical prophecy requires Israel to exist for Jesus to return," Larson wrote. "But Hegseth’s Bible study leader, preacher Ralph Drollinger, teaches that the reason to support Israel is that God still blesses Israel’s allies and curses Israel’s enemies, even though Israel killed Jesus (this smear, the historic root of antisemitism, has been rejected by every major religion)."

The non-commissioned officer's complaint states that those views were passed down from their commander to troops deployed in their "ready-support" unit, and that individual said the group was troubled by the apocalyptic religious framing of the military operation.

"I and my fellow troops know that it is completely wrong to have to suffer through what our commander said today," that non-commissioned officer said. "It’s not just the separation of church and state as we discussed Mr. Weinstein. It’s the fact that our commander feels as though he is fully supported and justified by the entire (combat unit’s name withheld) chain of command to inflict his Armageddon views of our attack on Iran on those of us beneath him in the chain of command."

Both Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were raked over the coals by a longtime columnist for the conservative National Review for nothing less than their "betrayal" of the people of Ukraine.

National Review's Jim Geraghty reported Trump, and Rubio are getting played by Russian strongman Vladimir Putin, and getting nothing in return for turning their backs on Ukraine and the NATO countries that are battling Russian expansionism.

Reacting to comments from both Trump and Rubio on Tuesday, Geraghty wrote, "... so far in his second term, regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Trump offered to Vladimir Putin that Ukraine will not retake all its annexed and occupied sovereign territory, that Ukraine will not join NATO, that there will be no U.S. troops on Ukrainian soil after the war, and that the U.S. will lift sanctions on Russia." before noting, "

And in exchange, Putin offered . . . well, nothing, really."

With that in mind, Geraghty singled out Rubio telling reporters he agreed with the Russian delegation to “lay the groundwork for future cooperation on matters of mutual geopolitical interest and historic economic and investment opportunities which will emerge from a successful end to the conflict in Ukraine.”

That led the conservative columnist to bluntly ask, "What 'mutual geopolitical interest' do we have with the regime that fired a missile into Kyiv’s main children’s hospital? " before adding, "Russia has killed more than 12,000 Ukrainian civilians, and more than 6 million Ukrainian citizens live under the brutal hand of occupying Russian forces, and our government is talking about 'historic economic and investment opportunities' with them?"

As he noted, Russian has little to nothing that America needs by pointing out, "Grain? Oil? Natural gas? We already have that stuff; there is more than we need, and plenty is available for export. I thought the Trump plan was to build us into an energy production superpower."

Reporting that Rubio also stated a peace settlement would be brought about in "a way that’s enduring and acceptable to all the parties engaged,” Geraghty questioned Rubio's wisdom.

"Does Rubio envision Putin recognizing Ukraine as a legitimate and independent country? He has never done that. Down to the marrow in his bones, Putin sees Ukraine as part of Russia that can never be allowed to pursue its own separate path," he wrote.

As for Trump's demands that Ukraine hold a new election as part of the settlement, Geraghty wrote that the mere thought of that being acceptable when nearly 20 percent of Ukraine is living under a Russian occupation is absurd by pointing out, "This would be akin to running an American presidential election with only 40 of the 50 states able to participate."

Noting Trump's claims that the Ukraine president is unpopular in his own country, the columnist concluded, "Trump’s absurd claim that Zelensky has a 4 percent approval rating is a hint that Trump is flailing and thrashing around, trying anything to justify his current de facto pro-Russian stance."  (Just a reality check on February 20, 2025 Trump has a 49 percent DISAPPOVAL rating and it continues to go down....he is "under water" and jealous about Zelenskyy's Ukranian populatiry.)

And this is why I have invited you into this strange and empty kitchen because Republicans want me to appeal to women voters. And women love kitchens.”

“My husband Wesley and I just watched President Biden’s speech, and what I saw was the performance of a permanent politician. But me? I’m not performing. I’m not! I’m not!” Johannsen said, donning a similar cross necklace and green blouse as Britt.

The late-night program spoofed Britt's kitchen table speech from Montgomery, Alabama, which has received criticism for claims she made about a rape that occurred at the hands of a sex trafficking operation run by cartels. But multiple reports have noted that the assaults likely did not happen in the United States or during Biden’s term in office.

So, it took to other reporters to pick up the story. Enter AL.com columnist Kyle Whitmire. He contacted Britt, and was able to get a statement from her people on whether the reporting was true, i.e., that she was talking about a woman by the name of Romero, and that the scenario occurred during George W. Bush's administration.

"Here is the answer I got from Senator Britt’s spokesman Sean Ross. I don’t think it answers the question and, as you can see, I have asked for further clarification,"...the local columnist wrote on social media on Saturday...'but to the question, the woman she met, it was Romero, correct?'" Whitmire adds to his readers: "Ross hasn’t responded further."

But an improbable bulwark has emerged against conservative excesses in a ruby red state that's experiencing a seismic demographic shift.

Averie Bishop, who last year won the Miss Texas competition, is using her platform to advocate for progressive causes, and her messages appear to be resonating, The Washington Post reports.

“To be seen, that’s the first step in making a lot of change," Bishop said. Bishop, 26, grew up in McKinney, a Dallas suburb with a population of around 190,000 and was the only Asian student in her classes at public schools in nearby Prosper.

The daughter of a Filipino mom who worked as a maid and a conservative white dad who was a bus driver attended the conservative Southern Methodist University and returned there for law school.

“I grew up in a really small town,” Bishop told The Post.

“I didn’t really see anybody who looked like me. … I used to look in the mirror and think that my flat nose and my eyes were really ugly and I would be really shy and embarrassed about my background.”

Bishop interned for Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Tex.) and also at a New York law firm.

Molly Hennessy-Fiske writes for The Post that Bishop “courted controversy from the start. During competitions, she said, pageant moms complained about her posts favoring Planned Parenthood or including Beyoncé songs with curse words.”

Speaking truth to power is not a traditional role for pageant winners, especially in the Lone Star state Jan Mitchell, executive director of the Miss Texas Scholarship Organization told The Post.

“Young women, they’re just different now. They’re more outspoken,” she said. “That’s our goal: That we have girls who express themselves.”

But Bishop plans to run for the state legislature in the next few years.

“We are literally pushed to our wits’ end,” Bishop said of young Texans.

“We are equipped and ready and just waiting for the time for these individuals to be challenged.”
Bishop’s reign as Miss Texas will end this weekend when a new pageant winner is crowned.

The day of the school shooting that killed 19 children and two teachers in Uvalde, Tex., last year, Averie Bishop posted a TikTok video, sobbing. “These things happen all the time and nothing changes,” she said.

The former president pleaded the Fifth Amendment more than 400 times Wednesday in his deposition before New York's attorney general, as his allies fanned out across the media suggesting that FBI agents planted unspecified evidence during the hours-long search of his home, and Conway told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that Trump's situation was grim.

"I think the walls are closing in on him," Conway said. "There are so many different investigations. There's also civil suits that are chasing him down. I think, bit by bit, we're finally going to see the processes apply to him. He had his deposition taken yesterday by the New York attorney general. There are some civil depositions coming up, and he is being forced, essentially, to put up or shut up in these investigations. Yesterday, he, you know, took the Fifth 440 times, which is basically the most respect I think he's ever shown for the Constitution of the United States."

"But the Georgia case, I think, is particularly one to keep looking out for," Conway continued. "It's the one that sort of seems to be moving
ahead the most quickly, but I think this documents investigation is one that we haven't heard the last of. I mean, [Washington Post columnist] David [Ignatius] is absolutely right about the innate cautious and by-the-book nature of Merrick Garland. I think that he is handling this absolutely perfectly. I don't think the Justice Department should be saying anything more than it already has said, which is basically nothing about this, because that's what the rule of law requires. That is what grand jury secrecy requires."

"The whole point of this exercise is that nobody is above the law," he added. "The law applies equally to you and I, to the rich and the poor, to ex-presidents and just regular citizens. 

Mar-a-lago is not your typical Florida ranch style house!

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) received a legal search warrant to enter Mar-a-lago to find and remove high security documents.  Agents entered peacefully and a receipt for all the items taken was given to the Trump attorney.

One of those protection people have is grand jury secrecy and the presumption of innocence. The reason why the Justice Department does not say anything about ongoing investigations, except in unusual circumstances or when indictments are there, is to protect the reputations of those that are the subject of investigation. If he really thinks that there is a witch hunt going on with these documents that were at Mar-A-Lago, he should tell us exactly what happened. Show us the search warrant. What was the government looking for? What did they take? He has a list of what they took, or should have a list, and that would tell us a great deal. But he doesn't want to say anything because he knows it's not going to be helpful to him, I'm sure. Just as actually answering questions from Letitia James yesterday wasn't going to be helpful to him."

Steve Schmidt blows conservative out of the water for claiming Putin was 'frightened' of Trump

Following Russian President Vladimir Putin's (dangerously crazy!) - wrongminded-decision to send troops into Donetsk and Luhansk as part of his incursion into Ukraine, the National Review editor-in-chief Rich Lowry (ugh!) tweeted out that Putin likely made the move because Trump is out of office and the Russian strongman was "frightened' by the ex-president's unpredictability. (IMO Rich Lowry is guilty of journalistic opportunism. He either plagiarizes what he writes by lifting it from other sources - like EuroNews- or he just makes stuff up.)

Thank you! Schmidt has been extremely critical of former President Donald Trump, and of the GOP for supporting him. In June 2018, Schmidt renounced the Republican Party as "fully the party of Trump".

Lowry's stupidity, in turn, led to a scathing response from former the Republican campaign consultant Steve Schmidt, who let Lowry know, in no uncertain terms, that he regards Trump as "a whore ... who would sell out his country; her values and ideals for nothing but flattery."

As Lowry sees it, "The sheer unpredictably of Trump, his anger at being defied or disrespected, his willingness to take the occasional big risk (the Soleimani strike), all had to make Putin frightened or wary of him in a way that he simply isn’t of Joe Biden."

Schmidt begged to differ in a tweetstorm that began, "This is a world view I have never understood. Trump is the most predictable person in the world. He is as predictable as the Sun setting in the west and rising in the east. There is no mystery around Trump. How could there be? The idea that Vladimir Putin was kept guessing by Trump is lunacy."

He then added, "What Putin saw was strategic incoherence shaped by a vast ignorance of the world," before later adding, "Trump fetishized the world’s strongmen and lambasted our allies. He was as indifferent to repression abroad as he was to democracy at home. He was a Buffon set loose upon the stage and everyone played their part."

At the end, Schmidt took a veiled swipe at the longtime National Review editor by writing, "He [Trump] has blighted the culture for more than 40 tedious years. In all that time, it wasn’t until he got to Washington DC that he found marks naïve enough to believe there is an actual strategy to it all."

Meanwhile, school shootings in 2021, continue terrifying students, educators, parents, and communities—There have been 34 school shootings in 2021, in fact, 24 since August 1. 

A shooting on Nov. 30, in which a student killed four people and injured seven at an Oxford, Mich., high school, was the deadliest school shooting since May 2018. There have been 92 school shootings since 2018. The COVID-19 pandemic appears to have interrupted the trend line. The 2020 figure, with 10 shootings, was significantly lower than 2019 and 2018, which each had 24.

Plus this: While the Cruz constituents in Texas were literally freezing to death during an ice storm when the state's power grid failed, he took his family to vacation in Cancun, Mexico! Cruz said that his Houston home didn’t lose power, unlike vast swaths of the state, though he said in his Thursday statement that he did end up losing power and heat. 

David Shuster "...confirmed @SenTedCruz and his family flew to Cancun for a few days at a resort they've visited before. Cruz seemed to believe there wasn't much for him to do in Texas for the millions of fellow Texans who remained without electricity/water and  literally freezing."

Rolling blackouts at times meant more than 35% of Texans went without electricity—and many of those without any source of heat.

Echo report in RawStory:  Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz apparently confused "Western Australia" (WA) with "Washington State" in an attempted attack on Democrats over COVID-19 restrictions on Wednesday night.

On Twitter, Cruz falsely suggested that "Washington State" had banned dancing at private parties on New Year's Eve.

"Blue-state Dems are power-drunk authoritarian kill-joys," Cruz wrote. "Washington State: NO DANCING ALLOWED!!! Any rational & free citizen: Piss off."

Cruz later deleted the tweet, but here's a screen shot:

Cruz was responding to a post containing an image of a comment thread from Facebook. In the comment thread, "WA Government" responded to a question about New Year's Eve COVID-19 restrictions by saying that "Dancing is strictly not permitted."

As it turns out, the comment thread came from the Facebook page of the Government of Western Australia, not Washington state. Cruz may have gotten confused since the postal abbreviation for Washington state is "WA."

Kelley knew her friend's husband was a strong Trump supporter, and she regrets not pushing her friend more to get the vaccine, despite her skepticism and their political differences.

"I was the one person she listened to," Kelley said. "She might have listened to me. I just let it go with her, not thinking the worst would happen."

Kelley saw a March 19 Facebook post by Lizzie's sister lamenting that her family had COVID-19 after making "one mistake" after being careful about the virus, and she knew that Lizzie must have caught it, as well.

She called her friend, who confirmed she had tested positive, on the following day, and Kelley shared

"Absolutely, without a doubt," Kelly told the website. "If he had come out and even taken a picture of himself getting it, he could have saved many lives."

Once in the hospital, she was placed in isolation with COVID-related pneumonia in both lungs, but an allergy prevented her from receiving steroid treatment and she was placed in intensive care on March 28.

Lizzie's condition worsened March 31, and her Trump-loving husband sent a Facebook message later that day notifying Kelley that she had died, and Lizzie's sister died Tuesday in ICU unaware that her sister had preceded her.

#Unfit - George Conway gives testimony about Donald Trump as a racist

In an upcoming documentary, conservative attorney George Conway emotionally recalls when he first realized beyond a doubt that President Donald Trump is a racist.

George Conway echo reported on RawStory:  “My mother came from the Philippines. She came to the United States in the late 1950s. So I’m half Filipino, and the other half is some mixture of Irish, Scottish – you know, I’m classic American mutt,” Conway explains in a clip of the documentary “#Unfit: The Psychology of Donald Trump.”

“I think of myself as an American. I just assume people aren’t racist. And I tend to forget that, well, some people are. And that’s sort of the lesson with Trump is. I just gave him the benefit of the doubt.”

“But what he said about those members of Congress,” Conway continues, referring to Trump telling four Democratic members of Congress to “go back” to the “crime infested places from which they came.”

“It brought back that memory of the one time I really remember, wow, there really are people like that here. I was with my mother when I was a teenager in a parking lot in Massachusetts and somebody said to her, ‘go back to your country.’ It came home to me then. This man is a racist. He is evil,” Conway says in the clip.

The documentary also includes interviews with doctors and mental health professionals, who provide insight into the mental pathologies they believe drive Trump’s behavior.

“#Unfit” is set for a limited theatrical release on August 28 before heading to on-demand platforms on September 1.
