Vaccines are the only way Americans will achieve COVID freedom!
Mandate COVID vaccine and punish the violators!
Echo opinion published in the Akron Beacon Journal, an Ohio newspaper.
One of the most prevailing reasons for refusing to be vaccinated against COVID-19 is the First Amendment or personal freedom view. Somehow, this view suggests that mandates violate this freedom.
Have we forgotten other mandates, such as income tax, seat belts, car seats for young children, speed limits, stop signs, car insurance, school attendance until age 16, yielding for emergency vehicles, wearing masks in health facilities, etc.? !!
Liberty and personal freedom cannot exist in the absence of personal and social responsibility, duty, obligation. When you choose to forgo vaccination, catch the virus and are hospitalized, who pays the price? The taxpayers, the insurance companies and your family who may depend on your income. Refusing to get vaccinated tells your family and friends that you don’t give a damn about their welfare and safety and that your self-centered freedom is more important.
Because of the possible dire consequences of refusal, vaccination against COVID-19 should definitely be mandated. Governor Mike DeWine offered $5 million of taxpayer money to reward those who got vaccinated. Do we reward people who follow all the mandates (laws)? Of course not! Instead, we punish people who violate those mandates, as it should be.
