Maine Stream Media alert: President Zelensky certainly shows Asharf Ghani what leadership is about

Echo opinion letter published in NWI.com (Northwest Indiana) in The Times newspaper.
Ukraine faces a “tough battle” as Russian forces amass in the east of the country, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on April 9, in a news conference.

There's a significance of comparison between remarkable resistance in the Ukraine against unprovoked Russian aggression, and Afghanistan. Why is it that the stark difference has never been mentioned in the press/media?

HELLO!?! When Afghanistan was taken over by a rag band of Taliban fighters, the country folded like a bag of chips. Its president fled the country like a coward (taking United States money with him) and his people were left to fend for themselves.

So, most of the Afghan people gave up without a fight.

In Ukraine, the opposite happened. President Zelensky stood, and a good number of its people are fighting at this very moment against the Russian invaders and marauders.

Is there a moral or lesson to be learned here? Yes, and it's a big one: When attacked or invaded, stand and fight, you might win or put a halt to the invader.

Roger Borroel, East Chicago, Indiana

P.S.- Reported in BBC News:
Asharf Ghani: Ex-Afghan president
Afghanistan's former president has defended his decision to flee the country as the Taliban closed in earlier this year, saying he did it to prevent the destruction of Kabul.
Asharf Ghani

The Taliban seized power in August after taking control of the Afghanistan capital.

Ashraf Ghani revealed that when he woke up on 15 August, he had "no inkling" it would be his last day in Afghanistan.

It was only when his plane left Kabul that he realized he was going, the fugitive Ghani said on BBC Radio 4's Today program.

Justifiably, Ghani has been heavily critizised and accused of abandoning the country at the time. He is now in the United Arab Emirates. (Reports BBC)

Gun violence has predictable indicators

Echo opinion letter published in The Times of Pawtucket Rhode Island:

On Black Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, upwards of 180,000 Americans applied for background checks in order to purchase a firearm.

Although the number of background checks is not a good measure as it relates to actual firearms purchased, it is a good barometer as it relates to future mass shootings.

As is still the case because of Republican resistance, assault rifles are for sale in large numbers in the United States. The Republican majority continues to clamor that it is the right of the individual that must be protected and that it is the mentally ill that must be prevented from securing a firearm while at the same time refusing to answer the question as to why these weapons are available in the first place.

As a combat veteran of Vietnam, I am all too familiar with how destructive these weapons were and still are. To deny the general public access to these obscene weapons is not an infringement of its Second Amendment rights, it is a measure to protect.

Why we as Americans fail to acknowledge this is beyond my comprehension. The United States is fast becoming a Third World nation with the rest of the planet looking on as we slaughter our citizens without the slightest compunction.

Unless and until we enact common sense gun control legislation and put the NRA out of business, mass shootings will be as common as our “do nothing” legislators that infect our nation’s capital.

Fakenews as a middle name!

'I thought after Rush Limbaugh's death, I wouldn't be subjected to any more right-wing attack drivel from anarchist Trump supporters, but Roy Whipple's "Biden legacy" letter proved me wrong," wrote Thomas Finch in The Times. (Maine Writer: Roy Whipple's name should be clarified to readers- he writes like he's "Roy FakeNews Sir Simpleton Cult" !)

Maine Writer would like to anoint several other right wing fanatics with the same title- like Floxie-Messy Jeanine Pirro, for example.  She wears a disguise because, in my opinion, the FoxFakeNewsDiva is really DJTrump, in drag.  The name of this Foxie should really be "Madam Jeanine FakeNews Trumpzi Cult Senior.)

This letter to the editor echo opinion was published in The Times newspaper, in Beaver, Pennsylvania:

Stupid Is As Stupid Does!

Dear Editor:  Just like Rush used to do, Whipple used obscure facts, flimsy allegations, personal opinion, lies, shoddy logic and Faux (Sir Simpleton!) News talking points to throw stones at an honorable man, trying his best to improve life for all Americans – unlike his predecessor, #TFG, who was undoubtedly the worst president in American history.

You've heard about people in glass houses not throwing stones? Due to Trump's many failures, his disregard for the Constitution and his attempted coup to stay in power by overturning a safe, fair and accurate election, I consider it foolish and un-Christian to be nit-picking at Biden after just seven months on the job.

Given the time; and a Senate without Moscow Mitch, and the two traitor "D"s – Manchin and Sinema – great things could happen in our country. Time will tell, if you keep an open mind; but Trumper Republicans aren't known for partisanship, cooperation or respecting facts. They prefer to believe their own made-up delusions. Lies instead of facts.

"Truth" – and I emphasize that word – counts for very little when public opinion can be swayed by alarmist rhetoric, xenophobia, and lies about police defunding. The entire "CRT" fiasco only pertains to college-age legal scholars – and is not about influencing elementary school kids about race. You want to talk about 'cancel culture?' I guess that depends on "whose ox is being gored."

I hear no complaints about how children "down South" were taught for generations that the era between the years of 1861-65 was the "War of Northern Aggression," or was about "states rights" while eliminating all references to slavery. Or do you need to see more Confederate 'stars 'n bars' being carried by MAGA hat-wearing idiots?

Maine Writer totally agrees with this statement: "President Joe Biden has more integrity in his thumbnail, than Trumpzi has in his entire bloated, racist, fascist, narcissistic body. After what we had to endure the past four years, Biden needs our support – not ducking stones from feeble-armed (aka FakeNews!) stone-throwers.

America needs a leader who is qualified to lead- Donald Trump must be replaced

Trump Town HallTrump ups pandemic death estimate and then complains about the press. Quite frankly, Trump is nuts. He spreads hate rather than truth and assurance.

As pandemic rages and we desperately need good science, Trump denigrates true experts
Echo opinion letter published in The Times a Beaver County Pennsylvania newspaper:

If everybody really wants to stop people hating everybody and everything, someone says, we must start with federal elected officials. The hatred they spread is amazing and they do it everyday. (Maine Writer's opinion is to look at our failed leadership and how he incites his crazy cult followers!)
This country is in bad shape.......

All the election ads are about attacking the other candidate. Qualifications are out the door. It’s who can sling the most mud. How has our great country become such a nasty place? It’s time to get rid of these career politicians. It’s time to get rid of parties. We need to elect the best person for the job. Period. (Maine Writer- Obviously America is in a very dangerous situation and the 2016 election continues to show how elections matter.)

Tom Hughes, Hopewell Township

Maine Writer P.S. - Donald Trump is the leader of hate.
