Rembering First Lady Mrs. Rosalyn Carter living a life of purpose

Rosalynn Carter shows us that human decency matters in leaders.
Echo opinion letters sent to the Los Angeles Times:
Mrs. Carter's autobiography "First Lady from Plains" is my favorite "first lady" books.
First Lady from Plains, first published in 1984, is Rosalynn's Carter's autobiography, covering her life from her childhood in Plains, Georgia, through her time as First Lady.

To the editor: The passing of former First Lady Rosalynn Carter reminds us of the glory of a better time — an era in which a simple life of hope, goodness and basic human decency defined many major figures on the national stage.

With her marriage partner of an astounding 77 years, the former first lady lived a life of purpose*. Would that there would be more like her in such a turbulent time in our nation’s history, a time in which we find our people so divided.

Rosalynn Carter leaves a legacy through her lifetime of accomplishment. She made the world a better place. She enriched the lives of those fortunate enough to know her as well as all Americans.

From Her memory will surely be an eternal blessing.

President Jimmy Carter and Mrs. Rosalynn (Smith) Carter

To the editor: The Carters were married for a total of 77 years, during which she served as a lifelong active partner to her husband, former President Jimmy Carter.

What a contrast to the former  guy Trump, who is thrice married and started dating his second wife when he was still married to his first.

(And the lowlife Trump slept with porm star Stormy Daniels when his wife Melania was post partum after the birth of their son.)

Rosalynn Carter sat in on Cabinet meetings, where she spoke freely, and she traveled with President Carter, presenting her viewpoints on various subjects, including mental health. She and her husband continued to work together to help others worldwide after he was president.

They were truly an outstanding couple.

*Mental health her top priority

“I wanted to take mental illnesses and emotional disorders out of the closet, to let people know it is all right to admit having a problem without fear of being called crazy. If only we could consider mental illnesses as straightforwardly as we do physical illnesses, those affected could seek help and be treated in an open and effective way.”

Donald Trump failed to present any evidence to defend his impeachment

To the editor of the Los Angeles Times:

Opinion echo:  Donald Trump spent time and effort on a six-page (incohesive!) letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) complaining about the (wrong minded!) unfairness of the impeachment process.

In fact, Trump failed to present any exculpatory evidence, witnesses or documents, and he believes that his “perfect” (ugh!) July 25, phone call with Ukraine’s president  Volodymyr Zelensky, should be proof of his innocence. (But there is no proof!)

The impeachment hearings were partisan, because the Republicans turned a blind eye to the president’s abuse of power. But this in itself is not sufficient to clear this president of gross corruption.

The impeachment inquiry did not commence until the uncontested facts were revealed that Trump sought to persuade a foreign country to interfere in the U.S. election by withholding congressionally allocated military aide. Neither hatred of Trump nor anger over the 2016, election has anything to do with this impeachment, since it was the president’s actions on Ukraine that started it.
