Donald Trump launched illegal war against Iran now is negotiating a "treaty" including reparations without Congressional approval

Echo opinion published in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette from Bloomberg.
How many ways to spell "loser"❓

A Trumpzi (secret) deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz is set for signature on Friday, and Donald Trump is already congratulating himself on being the first U.S. president to have made peace with Iran since the country's 1979, revolution.

That's wrong
❗ He is the first to have taken America to war with Iran, and therefore the first to have needed a truce- a.k.a., "treaty", to stop it. The peace his predecessors sought and failed to achieve has yet to come.

None of this would be cause for criticism if the decision to attack the Islamic Republic were to leave the U.S. in a substantially better negotiating position than it enjoyed before the start of hostilities. We can't be sure of the terms of the so-called Memorandum of Understanding, because they haven't been published.

But the fact that the Iranians are gloating while Israelis are horrified strongly suggests that isn't the case.

Indeed, the Israelis are aghast, (who knew
❓) because even though they are a party to the conflict, they have had no role in the negotiations, and there's no indication that Trump's truce will end any of the problems they went to war to resolve. The nuclear issue is reserved for negotiation after the truce takes effect. Others aren't even mentioned.

The eventual deal will have at least four requirements, judging by comments where all sides agree: An end to all hostilities, including in Lebanon; reopening the Strait of Hormuz to shipping; a restart of nuclear negotiations; and the release of billions of dollars in frozen Iranian funds, with conditions and a schedule that remain unclear.

Iran's negotiators also are having to sell the deal at home, where hardliners object to any agreement with the U.S. They don't believe that Washington--which, with Israel, assassinated the nation's supreme leader while engaged in the last round of nuclear talks--can be trusted. Plus in their view, they're winning the war.

Iran's state-controlled Mehr news agency has published comments from Mehdi Mohammadi, strategic adviser to the Iranian negotiating  team, as well as a leaked purported 14-point draft of the MOU (memorandum of understanding).

Mohammadi highlighted that the MOU's terms would mark the first time the U.S. has guaranteed it will control Israeli actions, something he considered highly significant. He also said the agreement would commit Trump--the architect of America's "maximum pressure" sanctions policies--to lift primary economic sanctions on Iran.

And although the MOU does require Iran to enter talks on diluting its stock of highly enriched uranium, negotiations on any other part of the country's nuclear program are not guaranteed. That would require the assent of both parties: "Without mutual agreement, there will be no negotiations," he said, according to Mehr.

Other parts of the draft published by Mehr (like the creation of a
💲300 billion reconstruction fund) are hard to credit, amounting to an Iranian wish list. Yet nothing that U.S. officials have said, on or off the record, suggests the core elements of the deal Mohammadi describes are wrong.

Trump criticized the Obama-era nuclear deal he went on to dismantle because it was impermanent, and failed to completely eliminate Iran's uranium enrichment program or address other Iranian threats, such as its ballistic missile program and network of proxies. He also faulted the so-called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action for, in exchange for Iran's concessions, returning some frozen funds and lifting sanctions. Trump said he could do better.

Yet Friday's MOU looks set to fail on the same counts, while making even more concessions for a much more limited potential nuclear deal--and all because Iran has discovered it can hold the world to ransom by closing Hormuz. That may not save a hated regime in Tehran once peace returns, but it will make for an inherently volatile situation in the Middle East.

This is a ceasefire extension and an agreement on Hormuz, not a peace deal that would reimagine U.S.-Iran relations or bring stability to the region. It is a mark of the war's failure that all of the problems that predate it have been left to the future.

Republicans cannot accept the fact that paying hush money to a porn actress is NOT a legal expense

Echo opinion letter published in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
https://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2024/jun/12/letters/

Paying hush money is not a legal expense
It should come as no surprise that Donald Trump was convicted on all 34 counts against him in his hush money trial. Maureen Dowd with The New York Times summed up the case against Trump in one simple sentence. She wrote, "You don't slime your way into the presidency by having your creepy gofer pay off a porn star you slept with while your wife was home with a newborn and call it a legal expense."
At one and the same time, Gov. Sarah Sanders and our entire congressional delegation piously claim to represent "Arkansas values" while shamelessly defending and supporting the immoral and mendacious Trump. Their photograph ought to be placed in the dictionary next to the word "hypocrite."

Donald Trump supported by cult followers who are victims of believing his evil big lie

Judge Engoron should agree to state Attorney General Tish James' request to impose a $370 million fine and permanently bar Trump from doing business in New York.
"Sure Trump destroyed our democracy, but the other guy was three years older?" 💬💭😏

Echo opinion published in the New York Post and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette:

NEW YORK- Like the drowning scorpion slipping under the water next to the stung and dying frog, Donald Trump could not help himself to violate an explicit court order and make a political speech when Manhattan state Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron extended him the privilege to say a few words about his civil fraud trial after Trump's defense lawyer concluded his closing argument Thursday.

Engoron warned Trump to stick to the facts and bounds of the case, as he had insisted for days when Trump indicated that he wanted a chance to speak--an agreement Trump never consented to. And so, after 11 weeks of trial and 44 days in the courtroom, Trump was given five minutes, and then promptly disregarded what the judge told him not to do.
"But I don't want to be Donald Trump's vice presidential choice"😒😈💭

"The financial statements were perfect, there were no witnesses against us ... the banks were happy as can be ... I spoke to an executive at Zurich, and he said, 'You didn't defraud us' ... This does go outside of the bounds ... This is a political witch hunt ... we should receive damages for what we've gone through ... we had millions of pages of documents. They have nothing.

"They don't want me here. Let's get rid of Trump. I've done a lot of great things."

When Engoron held up a finger to show that Trump had one minute to finish, Trump said: "You have your own agenda. You can't listen for one minute. I understand that."

Engoron finally addressed Trump's lawyer: "Mr. Kise, please control your client."

Engoron should agree to state Attorney General Tish James' request to impose a $370 million fine and permanently bar Trump from doing business in New York.

Our one complaint about Engoron's conduct of the trial is that he should have allowed TV cameras in the courtroom for the trial's opening and closing arguments, which is permissible under state law. Then the world could have seen Trump's final outburst.

Praise for Rep. Cheney and Rep. Kinzinger speaking truth to power

To save our country- echo opinion letter published in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, in Little Rock:

On Independence Day July 4, 2022, I write to say I am grateful for two patriotic, courageous Republican members of Congress, Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger.
January 6, investigation includes two Republicans in Congress- Rep. Cheney and Rep. Kinzinger with Committee Chair Rep. 'Thompson

They speak truth to power when most of their colleagues will not. Rep. Cheney and Rep. Kinzinger show political courage, despite the threats they are hearing from dangerous people who are attacking them and their families lives. As members of the Jan. 6 committee, they have steadfastly held hearings to determine the truth and the details leading up to and on Jan. 6, 2021. A day that will go down in infamy. We all watched in horror as a sitting president spurred insurrectionists to attack Congress. We watched as they chanted to hang the vice president and kill the speaker of the House.
Meet the members of the House committee investigating the January 6 insurrection.

We now know that a handful of Republican House members asked for a presidential pardon. Could it be due to their part in the conspiracy to overturn a fair and free election? It is imperative that these (begging for mercy!) members be subpoenaed so Americans can learn the full truth. What would make this more likely to happen? If the rest of the Republican House members boldly and publicly stated that they want the whole truth.

In Arkansas, the elected members know how dangerous the attack on Congress was. I am requesting that our Arkansas representatives drum up the courage to put their oath of office over party, just as Cheney and Kinzinger have done. I'm asking them to say aloud that the former president lost the election, that he fomented a coup, and that those who were complicit must be questioned under oath and indictments brought as needed.

To my 2nd Congressional District representative, Mr. French Hill, let me say: Saving our nation is more important than keeping your current job.

Domestic terrorists are in a dangerous frenzy in support the looser!

Echo opinion letters published in the the Arkansas Democrat Gazette and published in Arkansasonline.com

Better off without Trump and his domestic terrorism brand!

Americans are trying to understand how to survive in strange and uncertain times.

#DomesticTerrorist #Rioters referred to as *patriots* (#StupidIvanka!) stormed the U.S. Capitol and somehow became the deranged heroes of a narcissistic person who, by some (Russian infused!) fluke, was elected to the presidency.  He is a person who cannot accept defeat and, instead, incites insurrection.

Craziness! The call for these "Ivanka patriots" to come to Washington D.C., armed and ready for "protest" is also repugnant and contrary to any concept of a democratic republic.

Donald Trump is a loser in any sense of the word, whether by vote or by intrinsic lack of moral center. He needs to fade away as the worst president in our history and face the consequences of his actions, whether felonious as POTUS or in his personal business dealings.

Our nation will be better without Trump than it ever was with him as--and I use the term cynically and loosely--our failed leader.

Republicans bone spurs included putting Jim Jordan on the House Intel Committee

An echo opinion letter published in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

Cartoon published in the Florida newspaper Sun Sentinel
Nothing but excuses from Arkansas Representative Rick Crawford

Comedian Robin Williams (1951-2014) offering The Thinker toilet paper. This image reminds me of what Congressman Jim Jordan looks like everytime he spews diarrhea from the mouth.
Maine Writer- Obviously, Republicans preferred garbage mouth from Ohio Representative Jim Jordan, who is under investigation for not reporting sexual misconduct, rather than Arkansas Rep. Rick Crawford, because they wanted a dirreha sound bite to put on the evening news.  Rather than bring Republican credible witnesses to the Intelligence Impeachment Hearing, they put motor mouth Jim Jordan on the committee to spew incohenence.

Arkansas opinion - I almost choked on my toast while reading the news Saturday morning on my new electric newspaper.

After wiping the jam off the screen, I read that U.S. House Rep. Rick Crawford had gallantly surrendered his position on the hot-seat House Intelligence Committee to a fellow representative from Ohio, a more aggressive apologist and attack-dog for the president.

The article was overall pretty funny, but it was the last section that almost did me in: Representative Crawford started by accusing his committee chairman of being a 'liar' (good start to re-establishing a working relationship there, Rick), and excused his not attending the committee hearings regularly by calling it a "dog and pony show," and providing all the excuses under the sun for why he couldn't do the job we sent him to Congress to do.

The final sentence of the article was delivered like a Good Republican with a bad case of Alzheimer's and certified short-term memory loss: "If Democrats are 'weaponizing' impeachment, it sets a precedent for future presidents and future Congresses, Crawford added."

Can we perhaps recall Benghazi, the endless investigation of Hillary Clinton--that magically disappeared after her defeat--and the Star Chamber investigation of Bill Clinton? Can we please re-evaluate the history of "weaponizing" committee investigations?

But perhaps my representative just decided to be like Huckleberry Finn and duck out the back and lay low for a while. While you're out fishing on the river bank and another man is doing your job, you should have time to come up with some more excuses for the real estate salesman who accepts no constitutional limit on anything he wants. All the other excuses haven't held water for long.

Oh, our president does so love the crowds' roar, but if he could but love our nation and moral principles a little more ...

Danny Hancock, Lonoke, Arkansas

Maine Writer Post Script - Jim Jordan is a rambling idiot! Instead of calling credible witnesses to the Donald Trump impeachment hearings, the Republicans used a bone spur defense by putting Jim Jordan on the interviewing committee, just to create a false narrative about quid pro quo.

Trumpzi opinion summary - one mistep after another

"....Lies are the new truth, after all...."
Stupid is as stupid does
An echo opinion letter published in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette

Dear Editor:  It was an eventful week: Trump welcomed opposition intel from foreign governments, including Russia and China, to get himself get re-elected. Sarah Huckabee Sanders quit (couldn't she figure out how to lie her way out of this last pile of Oval Office offal?). The Federal Election Commission advised Trump that soliciting or accepting dirt from a foreign country on political opponents is a felony. Trump then claimed he would, of course, turn such intel over to "somebody" in the Justice Department, but not before "looking at it" (and benefiting from its contents--still a felony).

In the meantime, the Special Counsel's Office recommended firing Kellyanne Conway for using her office to electioneer for Republican candidates, which violates the Hatch Act. Trump refused to enforce the latter law, while advertising to all foreign takers that he's willing to break the former (Oh, wait, he's already been down that road--"Russia, if you're listening ...").

What to do? Well, a nice war would be just the thing to rally the base, silence all the critics and get re-elected. Unpatriotic to attack a "war president," don't you see? And if stepping up the pressure on Iran doesn't cause the ayatollahs to do something rash, one can always fabricate an incident (Gulf of Tonkin) or declare an imminent danger (weapons of mass destruction).

Lies are the new truth, after all--an alternate reality, crafted daily by our Supreme Leader. And real wars, like trade wars, are easy to win, right? Just need a catchy name. Operation Iranian Freedom, anyone?

America is not "full" - echo opinion from Arkansas

Immigration policy  Opinion letter published in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette by Howell Medders, Fayetteville

Donald Trump's (evil and false) claim that Hispanic countries are sending us their dregs, criminals and drug smugglers has been refuted. I won't call him a liar. The truth of it is irrelevant. It's a "feeling." Feeling is more important than truth, for many.Unfortunately Donald Trump's evil feeling is shared by many Americans. It's part of a more fundamental feeling, a fear that Hispanics will, or could, dilute and alter what they feel is the essence of America: whiteness. Few, not even Trump, say that out loud. They know it for what it is.

I feel that the immigrant border crisis is also an opportunity. We should spend the money required to process the refugees in a timely manner and provide support for those who qualify to become Americans. We should welcome more immigrants. America is not full. We can always use more good people.

When I see refugee families on TV, I see young men, women and children who will make great Americans. Like other immigrants, by virtue of their ordeal, they have the grit and determination to be great Americans. They are "good stock." They will produce, create, consume, pay taxes and enrich America.

I look forward to the children intermarrying with other races, or not, as they choose. I feel our whiteness is a weakness. We need more color.

Lady Liberty remains the true guide for our immigration policy: "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free ...*"

*The New Colossus
BY EMMA LAZARUS

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,

With conquering limbs astride from land to land;

Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand

A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame

Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name

Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand

Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command

The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she

With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
