Donald Trump continues bizarre statements to make Canada our 51st state, take Panama and buy Greenlland

Echo opinion letter published in the Beaumont Enterprise news in Texas:  #NoKingsAct  #ImpeachTrumpNOW

After Donald Trump’s election, I wrote a letter expressing my concern for the future of our democracy.

I also, expressed my hope that, having won the election, Trump would moderate his more extreme behavior and try to be a president for all Americans, not just Republicans. His first three weeks have validated my concerns and dashed my hopes for a better leader.

To be transparent, there are a couple of actions I mostly support. His (or Elon Musk’s) idea of a DOGE agency independent of Congress is a good one. Both parties accuse the other of government waste, but neither has done anything about it. Remember Trump’s ❓ record 💲8 trillion 💲 deficit❓❗ Congress people are very reluctant to make any spending cuts that would affect their constituents. My criticism of Musk is that he needs to make these cuts with a scalpel, not a chain saw.

I also agree that undocumented immigrant committing a crime should be deported; and should they be caught a second time, immediately incarcerated. Nevertheless, I do not agree with Trump’s idea of a mass deportation. There are millions of jobs that American citizens simply will not fill — Construction, agriculture, hospitality landscaping, etc. Mass deportation will be catastrophic to the economy.

Without going into a lot of detail, there are numerous actions that Trump has taken that really concern me — his bizarre ideas to make Canada our 51st state, take back the Panama canal and buy Greenland or take it by force. 😵😲

I could also add his tariff wars with Mexico, Canada, China, and most recently several European countries; His pardoning of the Jan. 6 criminals, which alienated the police unions who had previously supported him; His filling of numerous government jobs with people whose only qualification for office was their unwavering support of his rigged election fantasy; His attempt to cancel citizenship of children born in the US of non-citizens, which is guaranteed by the Constitution. There are several more, but you get my drift.

There is one final concern I would like to share. Several times during his recent campaign he joked (?) about a third term. Since his election, he has broached this possibility a few more times. His supporters say this is just Trump being Trump. Given his immense ego, his supporting MAGA cult and his admiration for presidents for life Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, I think he is deadly serious about ignoring the Constitution and running for a third term.

If our Senators and Representatives don’t somehow grow a backbone and stand up to Trump, our democracy could be history.
