Republicans who are self proclaimed Christian Nationalists are hypocritical by challenging Bible Scripture
Echo opinion published by the Houston Chronicle Editorial Board:
Thumbs down:👎🏼 👎In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, then he said, “let there be light,” and pretty soon after that, he redirected $11 billion from his social services budget to build border walls and pay state troopers overtime to catch migrants.
That apparently is how Governor Greg Abbott R-Texas, reads Genesis. “The Bible calls for strong borders and law and order,” said the Texas governor in a statement Wednesday. Abbott, a Catholic ✝️convert, was responding to Pope Francis himself after the supreme pontiff criticized President Trump’s mass deportation plans. Maybe Pope Francis should get with the times❓ Compassion is so passé. After all, Abbott is correct that Jesus instructed his followers to respect the laws of the land. Even Pope Francis said that every nation has a right to protect itself from violent criminals. It’s just so inconvenient that the “family of Nazareth in exile, Jesus, Mary and Joseph, emigrants in Egypt and refugees there to escape the wrath of an ungodly king, are the model, the example and the consolation of emigrants and pilgrims of every age and country,” as the pope wrote in his letter, referencing the Apostolic Constitution on the Care of Migrants.
Can’t we just leave that part of the Bible out, and also that annoying stuff about Moses leading his people out of Egypt?
Thumbs up: 👌 👍Pope Francis isn’t the only one giving Donald . Trump a taking to, and we’re not referring to Democrats.
They’re too busy wallowing in their dejection and dismay over the 2024, election results to mount a resistance. No, we’re talking about the son of Elon Musk, (aka "Musk-o-vite") whose name is X Æ A-Xii, but is usually referred to as “Lil X.” He’s like a tiny incarnation of his dad’s struggling and often impolite social media platform. When Musk brought him along to a press conference in the White House, the 4-year-old appeared to tell the president to “shush your mouth,” though the audio from the recording isn’t entirely clear and the boy may have been looking at reporters.
Some on social media claim Lil X told Trump, "You're not the president … you need to go away," as if he knows that his billionaire, Texas-adoptee dad is really the one in charge. But Snopes, the fact checking site, deems that claim inaccurate.
What we do know is that Lil X upstaged the whole event, making faces, sticking his fingers in his dad’s ears and, at one point, picking his own nose as the germaphobe-in-chief looked on in apparent disgust. It’s Daddy Daycare over in the Oval House. We hope they get something done to help the rest of us working parents.
Thumbs down: 👎 👎🏾 Next time Musk needs something to do with his son, he should bring him to the Houston Zoo. They opened a Galapagos exhibit in 2023, and Birds of the World in August. The shiny new sections of the zoo are a wonder but us old-timers are mourning the Carruth Natural Encounters Building, which will close on March 23. The 1962 building wasn’t exactly an architectural wonder but visitors inevitably discovered its air-conditioned charm when escaping the heat or sudden downpours. Kids could crawl inside a tube through the middle of a piranha tank! It was the closest thing to an aquarium in Houston. (And no, the big seafood restaurant downtown doesn’t count.)
