Republicans have no ideas except to spew hypocrisies
There was a time when Republicans used to have big policy ideas.
Among the things making this an unusual (2024) election cycle is just how empty the Republican policy basket is right now. Republicans have hardly any economic plans❗
Republicans are running against growing crime (but they will not acknowledge how guns contribute to this tragedy), but their policy response is, as far as I can tell, to oppose “defunding” police departments. Given that hardly any Democrats supported radically reducing police spending in the first place and that Democrats in Congress sent a lot of money to states and cities to increase spending for police forces, it’s hard to see exactly what Republicans in Congress would do differently. At any rate, they aren’t telling anyone.
Immigration? A similar helping of heated rhetoric that isn’t backed by policy ideas. Republicans are a political party largely focused on symbolism, but not substance. That’s easiest to see in their crusade against “woke” (many who use that label have no idea what the word means 😠)- Check out "What does 'woke' really mean?"*
Ron DeSantis quote: "We will fight the woke in the legislature. We will fight the woke in education. We will fight the woke in the businesses. We will never, ever surrender to the woke mob. Our state is where woke goes to die."
In simple terms, it just means being politically conscious and aware, like "stay woke".
But, not anymore. (Maine Writer opinion: It is impossible to understand what Republican right wing politicians believe in except they intend to destroy democracy, without reason!)

*Woke - it's just four letters, but it has had a big impact on Republican politics ahead of the 2024, election. It's hard to avoid criticism of, quote, "wokeness" and "wokeism" among GOP presidential hopefuls. But what does it actually mean?
So, in other words, in Maine Writer's opinion, the Republicans are even more politically inept than I give them credit for. If their political party is not "woke" then their cult is surely led by a headless horseman, like the ghoulish image, described in Washington Irving's story about the Legend of Sleepy Hallow.
