Donald Trump speaks from a dangerous fascist dictionary
Donald Trump is never shy with his language but recently, the editor Alex Kingsbury argues, his violent speech has escalated.
Opinion echo published in the The New York Times and The Hill:
In the last few weeks alone, Trump suggested his own former general was treasonous, said that shoplifters should be shot and exhorted his followers to “go after” New York’s attorney general. Kingsbury says he understands why voters tune Trump out, but stresses the need to pay attention and take action for the sake of American democracy.
1. The mention of Clinton’s name prompted calls of “lock her up” from the crowd. “Yeah. I agree with you. I used to just be quiet on that. I agree with you 100 percent,” Trump said, endorsing calls to jail his political opponent. Trump, at one point, meandered into attacking his 2016, rival, who is a recurring figure in his speeches even four years later.
2. Trump chief of staff said the president thought Pence ‘deserves’ chants of ‘hang Mike Pence’ on January 6, ex-aide testifies. The jaw-dropping remarks came during the sixth public hearing by the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol by a violent pro-Trump mob.
