Memo to Jeb Bush - don't laugh about lying: By the way- you're not Hispanic
It's a lie to deliberately check the wrong ethnicity on an official form. It seems Governor Jeb Bush thought is was funny to check the box, claiming he was Hispanic on a voter ID form. But he lied.
In fact, Governor Bush is a privileged American, born to an affluent white Protestant American family. He's not Hispanic.
A lie is obviously not funny. Moreover, when the lie is deliberate, it can be a misdemeanor. To misrepresent one's voter identity on an official form is hugely problematic for a Republican, because "voter ID" is an important public policy issue.
In fact, Republicans claim some voters are fraudulently representing themselves as American citizens in elections (although there's no evidence of this). Now, incredulously, Jeb Bush has been found to have misrepresented his ethnicity on a voter ID form. Why did he do it?
Now, the Republican "privileged" potential presidential candidate, from a prestigious family, has misrepresented his ethnicity.
This is a hypocritical outrage.
(CNN)Likely 2016 Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush owned up to his "mistake" Monday on an unearthed 2009 voter registration form on which he listed his ethnicity as "Hispanic."
Despite his claim on the voter registration form, obtained and published by the New York Times, Bush is white. His wife Columba, who was born in Mexico, and children are Hispanic.
"My mistake! Don't think I've fooled anyone!" Bush tweeted Monday morning.
Although Jeb Bush had his family cover for him on Twitter, the fact is, he admitted it was a lie. He did it. Bush really did check the Hispanic box. It's not possible he made a mistake. He lied.
All I can say is, if this "mistake" had been attributed to Mrs. Hilary Clinton, I seriously doubt the family of Mr. Jeb Bush would be making any jokes about it on Twitter.
And that's the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
So help me God.
