High Speed Rail and Republican Obstrutionism - More Backwards Momentum

It makes no sense for Republcian to oppose all progressive initiatives, like high speed rail.  

I'm wondering if the GOP's consistent obstructionism is a ploy to create overwheleming negative energy, like a tsunami of polotical acrimony, for the purpose of building a new world order of their making. In the regressive environment they've created, Republcians could egotistically claim credit for buidling a brave new world. This is delusional and perhaps paranoid thinking, but how else can rational thinking people understand the motivation behind Republcian obstructionism?  

What other reason is there for Republicans to oppose everything?
Rather than call themselves the Grand Old Party, Republicans are a grumpy old party of obstructionists.

Republican obstructiom is regressive and negatively impacting our nation's competitivve position in the world. Now, high speed rail is among the GOP obstrucitonist positions.  They don't want it.

Obviously, Republcians don't care about train travel because ordinary people, like the middle class, would benefit from this highly efficient form of transporatation. Otherwise, if Republicans rode trains, they'd want to take credit for supporting high speed rail.  High speed rail would mean important investing in our nation's crumbling infrastructure(bridges and roads), creating important private sector jobs in industries supporting the trains and providing Americans with more affordable alternatives to expensive airline travel. High speed rail would allow workers to be more flexible about where to live and work and expand business access to interstate commerce.

But Republicans simply won't support high speed rail. Frankly, Republicans don't seem to support any progressive policies. 

Instead, Republicans stand strong in opposition to all social safety net, progressive policies and economic stimulus where middle class people benefit from income sharing, ie "taxes" invested for the purpose of improving the human condition.

High speed rail supporters blame Republcians for America's inability to advance this important transporation system, enjoyed by many other nations like Japan and much of Europe.

Did Republicans kill America’s high speed rail plan?

I could answer this question in one word: Yes.

"..call me a 'railroad guy'. Freight rail? That’s a no-brainer. Anything that can be hauled on a train instead of a truck should be on a train—period. Passenger rail? 'Build it and they will ride.' That’s why the all-too-common political shenanigans or posturing that prevent the expansion of passenger rail in this country always gets me going.

Unfortunately, in the case of high speed rail, the perpetrators with the political sledgehammers and baseball bats are Republicans. Why? I haven’t a clue. It’s just the way too many of them think.

Projects get planned; projects get partially funded; projects get killed. It’s happened before and probably will happen again. Meanwhile, the United States falls farther and farther behind the rest of the developed world in passenger rail, despite bright spots like the Northeast Corridor and Chicago-St. Louis and the Pacific Northwest, which aren’t really “true” high speed but higher-speed systems. California—if it ever gets under way—will become our first high speed system...".

Americans must obstruct the obstructionist Republicans by voting them all out of office. Our nation can't become a regressive nation where trains are children's "choo-choos", while China builds a high speed rail to extend from Bejing to Burma! (Although, honestly, I'm not sure China's extremely ambitious high speed rail plan will work, the fact is, their nation is willing to invest in trying to make it happen.They're not obstructing its progress.)

Republicans should embrace the vision of their own President Eisenhower, who acted on building our nation's highway system. Where would our nation be without President Eisenhower's leadership and vision regarding improving national transporation? We'd be living in the 1930's, that's where.

Let's stop this backward national momentum regarding all things progressive. We must support high speed rail and President Obama's initiatives to create jobs by passing the American Jobs Act.

President Obama must be our 21st century's President Eisenhower by pushing his vision into a legacy. Americans deserve high speed rail. Meanwhile, we the voters must remove all obstructionist Republicans from office who continue to obstruct progress, but who are mysteriously quick to support backwards momentum.

President Obama Must Act Against Republican Extremism

Republicans can't possibly care about people. If they cared about people, they'd immediately stop obstructing progressive policies and begin to recommend some creative ideas to help the middle class.

Instead, right wing Republicans are consumed with a misguided ideology, driven by radicalism rather than humanism. They're paranoid about the role of government and stuck in conservative trench warfare against immigration reform, tax reform, health care reform, Second Amendment gun reform and entitlement reform.

While a Republican driven government shutdown looms, middle class Americans are watching our 401 K portfolios shrink while the stock market tries to figure out the fiscal uncertainty. Furthermore, we're worried about how the negative impact of a government shutdown will interfere with earned Social Security and Veterans Benefits. There's absolutely no need for this anguish. Our US government has plenty of money plus the ability to generate more cash through revenue sharing aka "tax reform".  Blogger DC Coder writes, "If Congress fails to fund the federal government by Oct. 1, the start of the new fiscal year, the government will go into partial shutdown. Some government functions – those deemed essential – will continue as usual, while others will be suspended. If a shutdown proceeds the way it would have in 2011 (had the last funding impasse had not been resolved in time), 800,000 of 2.1 million federal employees would be furloughed."

What don't Republicans "get" about the severity of this doomsday scenario? We're already dealing with the consequences of the stupid fiscal sequester. It's sincerely not fair to impose more hardship on Americans by shutting down government because Republicans want to cause trouble.

President Obama's intervention is essential to stop this extremism. Americans need leadership to guide us out of the polarized trenches being defended by radical extremists. Somebody must put an end to this consistent Republican obsession with government obstruction.  

Apparently, Republicans need education about how democracy works. It's like this - the person with the most votes wins the elections. Like, in 2012, President Obama and the Democrats won, because they received the majority of votes. 

But, Republicans also need to know how those who loose elections always have a chance to try to win at another time. Winning at another time means bringing forth good alternative ideas. Republicans don't have any.

Republicans seem to believe democracy only works when they win the elections. In their delusional logic, they're the only party entitled to reap the privilege of living in a Democratic government.

If Republicans sincerely understood democracy, they'd create fresh ideas to present to the American people, so they could plan to win more votes for their policies in the upcoming elections. Republicans aren't likely to win a majority of votes in future national elections while they continue to obstruct government without offering solutions to problems, other than to shut down the government.

Meanwhile, President Obama must animate his resistance to spiraling and out of control Republican obstructionism. 

Rather than soft speeches and beautiful logic, President Obama must tell Republicans how unpatriotic it is to not supporting the Federal Law passed in Obamacare and upheld as Constitutional by the US Supreme Court. He must tell Republicans how dumb it is not to raise the debt ceiling, because the money needed has already been appropriated. Holding the debt ceiling hostage to budget negotiations is like charging on a credit card to buy Christmas gifts, but not paying the bill when the invoice comes due. It's dumb.

Republican extremism must be stopped. Americans need leadership to educate voters about the value of progressive government and the dangers of continued obstructionism. 

Moreover, President Obama must take action to deliver on his campaign promise to fight for the middle class. Where is that Obama, the 2012 presidential candidate? We need him ASAP.
