We need Republicans who will stand up to Trump

Republicans like Senator Susan Collins who refuse to stand up to Donald Trump, a creature who abuses his authority, should be voted out and replaced by Republicans who are not part of a cult of personality or beholden to one man.

The unwillingness of Republican members of Congress, like Reublican Senator Susan Collins, to speak out against Donald Trump’s flagrant misuse of authority will damage the world’s perception of and the trust in the United States for decades.

Donald Trump's communication style — crude, rude, abrasive, bullying, disrespectful, cruel and antagonistic — is beneath the standard we should expect from our elected leader.

We must hold our elected Republican legislators accountable for the mess our nation is in. Democrats, when they regain control of Congress, must also resist the temptation to govern through the same divisive tactics.

Finally, we need to overturn Citizens United and place reasonable limits on political contributions. Allowing wealthy individuals to exert disproportionate influence over elections undermines our democracy.

We can do better. Our nation deserves much better.
