Echo opinion letter to The Daily Chronicle in Centralia Washington state: 

It is time to speak up, before we are no longer allowed to:

Freedom of speech is the foundation of our democracy, a sacred right that allows us to express dissent, share ideas and hold our leaders accountable.

But under the Trump administration, this fundamental freedom is under assault.

Donald Trump has made it clear that he will do everything in his power to silence his opponents. Whether through legal threats, attacks on the press or public shaming of critics, he has consistently shown contempt for open discourse.

This isn’t just about politics, it’s about preserving the very principles that define our nation.

Without freedom of speech, independent thought withers. The ability to challenge authority or expose wrongdoing vanishes. A government that fears criticism is not a government by the people, it is a government for one man’s power and ego.

We are at a crossroads. Will we allow our rights to erode in the name of political loyalty, or will we stand up for the freedoms that generations before us fought to secure?

It is time to speak up, before we are no longer allowed to.
