Donald Trump now indicted with 34 felonies!
To the Editor: The New York Times: Echo opinion:
Re “Trump Charged With 34 Felonies in Hush-Money Case” (nytimes.com, April 4):
The spectacle of a "former guy" president - Donald Trump, appearing in a Manhattan courtroom to answer to criminal charges is tragic from a historical perspective. It forever tarnishes and diminishes the office of the presidency and, by extension, the nation itself.
It is one thing for a commander in chief to be thought of as incompetent, misguided and overwhelmed. But, quite another to contemplate outright criminality. (34 felonies!)
Re “Trump Charged With 34 Felonies in Hush-Money Case” (nytimes.com, April 4):
(Porn star Stormy Daniels and the illegal, fraudulent machinations that the Trump campaign allegedly undertook to pay her off during the height of the presidential campaign in 2016, are me the most quintessential of Trump’s many scandals.)

As much as I abhor Trump’s irresponsibly incoherent policies and political points of view, I sincerely hope that he did not engage in criminal conduct, despite his less than stellar ethical track record.
Such a legal finding to rule him guilt of 34 felonies, would significantly undermine America’s hard-earned moral standing with the rest of the world, from which we may never recover.
