"I can't imagine anyone voting against the establishing of a commission", President Biden

In The New York Times, voices from throughout the world have access to a main stream media "soap box".  This is a wonderful forum for ordinary folks who find themselves published in the respected opinion pages.

Check out these two letters from Americans - in Pasadena California and Delray Beach, Florida (bicoastal!) - who are stunned by the incompetence the cowardly Republicans have revealed, that  prevented the formation of a January 6, insurrection investigation commission.

To the Editor:  “I can’t imagine anyone voting against the establishing of a commission on the greatest assault since the Civil War on the Capitol,” President Biden said.

Well, Mr. President, they did, and it’s about time for you to get tough!

Senate Republicans filibustered a bipartisan bill to create an independent commission to investigate the Jan. 6, (seditious)..! attack on the U.S. Capitol. This proves once and for all that the filibuster doesn’t encourage bipartisan compromise. It impedes it.

As the Senate majority leader, Chuck Schumer, said in a floor speech immediately after the vote, “Shame on the Republican Party for trying to sweep the horrors of that day under the rug because they’re afraid of Donald Trump.”

Richard A. French,  Pasadena, California

To the NYT Editor:  The G.O.P., the alleged “law and order” party, blocks the formation of a bipartisan, independent commission to investigate the Jan. 6, insurrection (seditious!) attempt at the Capitol.

This should send a strong message to all police officers across our country about how blatantly hypocritical the (GQP!) party really is. It has proved once and for all that Republicans don't care one iota about the men and women who have sworn to protect it or our citadel of democracy.
