COVID conspiracy theories harm to the greater good

This time last year in 2020, I was praying that I would survive another night of chaos and turmoil at work (I work on the COVID floor at one of the local hospitals). We were getting hit hard with COVID cases, and at that time we did not know much of anything about what COVID could do to the body or even how to treat it.
All we knew is that it was a deadly virus that had spread throughout the world, and it had infiltrated with its fingers to Mississippi.
Then came the conspiracy theories.
All we knew is that it was a deadly virus that had spread throughout the world, and it had infiltrated with its fingers to Mississippi.
Then came the conspiracy theories.
Well, let me tell you, COVID is a nasty virus. It might bring about loss of memory, smell, or taste for some or it may ravage one’s respiratory system to the point a person is gasping between every two words for others.
Science will tell you that wearing a mask is sound in the fact that it does help prevent the spread of COVID.
Yet, with all the misinformation that we can find at our fingertips, I can imagine it is hard to decipher what to believe these days. But a personal experience might capture one's attention.
We have vaccine and maybe, maybe we can get this evil beast under control. Then the holidays came, and we were hit with another wave of COVID. Yikes, here we go again. Saddle up.
Whew, February comes, and a winter storm hits. Numbers drop to a remarkable level. Vaccines are being distributed. Then — mask mandates are lifted. Some Mississippians are elated and others are horrified.
Well, quite frankly I am terrified that there will be another wave. Maybe it won't be as bad as the first or second wave, but I am not ready.
So, my question to all of you is would you wear a mask to help end this, to save a life of a person more vulnerable than you, to protect that pregnant mom from losing her baby due to complications from COVID, to protect the cancer patient that was in remission and beat everything against the odds except COVID? I could go on, but I think I have painted the picture.
Please help be a part of the solution and think long and hard about wearing a mask.
It is not about one person. It is for the greater good.
