Republicans repeating and repeating - broken records of the 78 RPM vintage
Republicans on the House Oversight and Reform Committee need counseling about the causes of repetitive behaviors....like they just couldn't *think* during the Michael Cohen interviews....their brains behaved like they were in a frozen embryonic state of confusion.
MaineWriter- In my opinion, the Republicans who interrogated the witness Michael Cohen during his day of public "coming clean" truth telling, were exhibiting signs of desperation. They spoke like the old party of bumbling idiots that couldn't form even one cohesive question. Every one of the Republicans on the House Oversight Committee reacted stupidly in their rhetorical comments, like Rep. Mark Green, who said, to the effect, "All people in Tennessee agree with me...." (Oh paleeeze, let's talk about who was lying in that comment?). They were an embarrassment to their party and to the nation. An echo opinion published in the Orlando Sentinel, a Florida newspaper, reflects my sentiment. I believe Michael Cohen.
The Michael Cohen hearings (“Cohen assails former boss,” Feb. 28) revealed several important points that left me disappointed and not surprised.
History repeats....and repeats....like a broken 78 RPM record with scratches....
To the Editor of the Orlando Sentinel:
Republicans on the House Oversight Committee acted like parrots playing the rhetorical game of "pete and repeat"! |

(Michael Cohen's opening statement transcript in The New York Times at this link here.)
Obviously, it is no secret, that Michael Cohen lied in the past and done things he is not proud of. The public may have known about some, as the media has informed; but, the hearings told us more. Why then did most of the Republican congressmen on the committee begin their questioning stating that information? Perhaps the method of questioning was avoidance or inability to admit their Republican president represents such negative traits. If one were to close their eyes during the seven hours of testimony, I don't think guessing which side of the aisle was questioning would be difficult. To my personal recall after listening, I did hear one Republican member question in a appropriate fashion and he is to be commended.
Living in the Washington, D.C., area during the Watergate hearings and actually attending one of the hearings, it felt a bit like history starting to repeat. The repetition being the subject of power and how it often leads to corruption. Furthermore, it is an attitude of climbing to the top by clinging to those thoughts to represent some kind of power. Michael Cohen seems to have done that and as he continues to expose unsavory deeds by the president, many wonder the outcome.
Lessons may or may not be learned as the lure of money and power are a compelling force and if anyone is an unintended example of what not to fall into, it is Michael Cohen. There will be many opinions as to whether his testimony was credible, I think it was.
