Letter to the editor: I winter in Florida where 17 students were recently gunned down at a local high school (Parkland Florida at the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School).

However, my wife and I continue to live in the Burlington during the non-winter months.
I read the Free Press online every morning and see that our beautiful state is afflicted with the same sickness as all other states plus the federal government. There are no politicians who have the intestinal fortitude to “ban assault weapons.”
Banning assault weapons should be the very first step in any proposed legislation, be it local or national.
