At this point, Trump could bite the head off a live rat, and it might earn a page 10 mention in major metro papers. As pundits debate the strategic significance of rat eating, MSNBC would run live coverage with commentary. U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz would appear on Fox News, decrying the radical left conspiracy to advance its woke, pro-rat agenda. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt would praise the selfless courage of Trump confronting the rat head-on and, much like Jesus, eating it for our sins. Rats 🐀would be, like, “These guys are nuts. Just sit tight for a few months, and we’ll be running the place.”

This isn’t about eating rats. It’s not even about Greenland. Rather, it’s about the elephant in the room: We are in a Freddy Krueger-level national nightmare, and it’s time to wake up. The Cabinet needs to invoke Section 4 of the 25th Amendment. The House needs to impeach. The Senate must to convict❗

Republicans are complicit in the physical act of deep bowing their heads to the ground, showing excessive deference or submissiveness toward Donald Trump.

Regarding “Dow drops swings, whiplash!  1,600 as US stocks lead worldwide sell-off after Trump’s tariffs cause a COVID-like shock,” (April 3): Our president has been busy creating chaos. 

With performative Trumpziim contempt for the rule of law, his administration has violated the First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh and Eight Amendments. That’s over half the Bill of Rights — the very prerequisite for states ratifying the Constitution.

People have been brutally arrested, shoved into unmarked vans (Nazi tactics❗) and shipped off to foreign prisons without probable cause or due process. 

Judges have been targeted. Law firms have been extorted. And there’s not enough ink at the Chronicle to catalog violations of the emoluments clause. 

If America were a stock, the world would be dumping it. As MAGA sanewashers try to convince everyone that coke-addled spider monkeys definitely are not flying the plane, American pain and protest are falling on deaf ears. I attended the recent town hall with Tim Walz and Beto O’Rourke and saw a lot of scared and angry constituents who felt ignored, even disdained, by their elected Republican representatives.

Four years of this is unsustainable. This administration is a runaway train on a collision course with reality — either an attack for which we have no reliable intel, an undetected pandemic, a more-likely-than-not recession — or worse. Buckle up.

Now, fresh off of Signalgate, exposing to adversaries and allies our bare-naked ineptitude for operational security, Donald Trump singlehandedly shoves the world economy off a cliff, launching a trade war against everything not Russia. In two days, the S&P 500 loses $5 trillion. Calling it a week, Trump flies off to a Saudi-backed golf tournament instead of presiding over the dignified transfer of the four U.S. soldiers who died in Lithuania.

Buckle up❗

Dear Editor:  Donald Trump’s told more than two lies per minute during an hour long rambling press conference. During this event, Trump said that the Presidential Medal of Freedom was “much better” than the Congressional Medal of Honor, because “everyone gets the Congressional Medal of Honor, they’re soldiers. They’re either in very bad shape because they’ve been hit so many times by bullets, or they’re dead.”

Given the staggering magnitude of his ignorance — according to his former chief of staff, Trump didn’t even understand the significance of Pearl Harbor — it’s tempting to dismiss this comment as innocuous. He was simply complimenting a Medal of Freedom recipient who, unlike the “suckers” and “losers” who defend this country, happened to be a “healthy, beautiful woman” and, of course, a billionaire donor to his campaign. But it underscores deeper, ongoing and far more consequential character flaws that should render him permanently unfit for any public office.

Trump has profoundly perverted the definition of leadership. For him, there is nothing greater than self-enrichment and self-preservation, which is why sacrifice, service, honor and humility are pointless gestures. Loyalty is something to be imposed, not inspired. This is not just a character flaw, it’s a complete absence of character and it runs against the basic values we all teach our children.

His seemingly inconsequential ramblings are newsworthy because they reveal a myopic world view that will inform his policy decisions. This is critical information for any voter — the uninformed, misinformed and those with short memories.
