Donald Trump continues to be assessed by medical professionals because his bizarre behavior "cannot be considered normal"

Echo opinion about Donald Trump's mental health and his deteriorating cognitive symptoms published in the News-Press, a Florida newspaper.

An urgent need to understand Trump's mentality | Opinion

Do his characteristics indicate a mental disorder, and if so, how serious is it? by Morton Tavel, MD

Almost everyone understands that Donald Trump displays thought processes that cannot be considered normal.

(For example, Donald Trump said he did not know the person who he pardoned"I do not know the man I pardoned," was made by Donald Trump in a November 2025 interview with CBS News' 60 Minutes regarding his pardon of cryptocurrency tycoon Changpeng Zhao (also known as "CZ").   In fact, Zhao, the founder of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange Binance, pleaded guilty in 2023, to violating anti-money laundering laws and served a four-month prison sentence. U.S. government prosecutors stated that he had caused significant harm to U.S. national security by allowing terrorist groups like Hamas to move millions of dollars through his platform.)

Simple failings such as incessant lying, oversensitive responses to humor, and exaggeration of self-worth, all raise the question whether these characteristics indicate a mental disorder, and if so, how serious is it?

For these answers, we can seek the opinions of recognized mental health experts, i.e. psychiatrists and psychologists. An excellent source of this information can be found in the book, “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump,” which presents the opinions of 27 nationally recognized psychiatrists and psychologists, edited by Brandy X. Lee, M.D. forensic psychiatrist, published in 2017, and later updated in 2024 under a new name, “The More Dangerous Case of Donald Trump,” later increased to include the opinions of 40 such professionals. Also, from a closer perspective, Trump’s own niece, Mary Trump, a credentialed clinical psychologist, emphatically presented parallel conclusions in her book, “Too Much and Never Enough: H
ow My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man.”

Although a previous psychiatric doctrine prevented the publication of opinions about subjects not personally examined by the experts (the “Goldwater Rule”), this restriction has now been lifted in view of the widespread public knowledge already available about Trump’s statements and behavior.

Explaining this recent decision, the“the physician, to whom life-and-death situations are entrusted, is expected to know when it is appropriate to act, and only in an emergency should a physician breach the trust of confidentiality and intervene without consent. We believe that such an emergency now exists.”

Following is a summary of these experts’ opinions:

First: All contributors opined that Trump is seriously mentally deranged, primarily considered to be a “psychopathic personality disorder,” often termed “toxic narcissism.” Adding further to his impairment, they expressed the strong likelihood that he is manifesting an early form of dementia (Alzheimer’s Disease). After careful study of his many statements and behavior, they concluded that he shows a mental decline greater than that of normal aging, further asserting that often this condition advances by an average 15% to 20% within one year, and 50% will develop into full-scale dementia over the next four years.

In order to quantify the seriousness of Trump’s mental disorder, the psychiatrists used a “psychopathic check list,” generally used to grade the severity of impairments, which was applied to evaluate Trump.

This assessment included a wide variety of factors such as egocentricity, pathological lying, lack of remorse or guilt, lack of empathy, impulsiveness, sexual infidelity, and several others. As a frame of reference, the average score for someone in the general population is 5, with an average for felons in a maximum-security prison setting, 22. A score of 30 or more places one into serious mental disorder, and Trump was found to exceed this level by the experts, falling in the range of 34. The authors concluded that “Trump’s is a life destined to inflict harm and suffering on others. With the support of thousands of studies on his condition, we have to warn that Donald Trump, because of his hard-wired and immutable traits, is more dangerous than even his harshest critics exclaim.”

Perhaps the most revealing statement about Trump can be found in a chapter written by psychiatrist L. Dodes, MD, entitled “Donald Trump, Like Hitler, is a Psychopath.” Dodes warns that “this constitutes the most dangerous of all mental disorders, since it is the only psychological condition in which behaving in a morally reprehensible way is an essential part of its nature.”

Manifestations of this disorder include the intentional creation of harm to others without guilt or remorse, for personal gain or self-gratification, which includes the sadistic pleasure of wreaking revenge against imagined enemies. Psychopaths cannot be reasoned out of their beliefs or their behavior, because they are unable to comprehend that others have value, or the concept of questioning themselves. The fact that Donald Trump has the most dangerous form of this disorder has two long-term consequences: It means that he is never going to stop intentionally harming others for his personal benefit, and it means that he will become worse over time. With his use of the ‘Big Lie’ technique, attacks on minorities and immigrants, and claims that only he can save America, Trump has shown that he is following the very same plan as that of Hitler and other truly evil dictators in human history, including lawbreaking, lying, cheating, and the absence of conscience.”

Given all these facts, how could the average person understand and react to Trump❓ A common mistake is to assume that he is “sane,” that is, possessing human qualities common to all, such as the ability to listen to reason and draw conclusions from cogent facts, and to modify his/her behavior accordingly. Donald Trump possesses none of these qualities, and we should not be misled by this erroneous interpretation.

But what can we, as a population, do about Trump’s current posses
sion of the levers of power❓

If Donald Trump continues on a course of obvious mental deterioration, (Alzheimer’s, etc.), or that of a more serious mental disorder, this should provide enough impetus to invoke the 25th Amendment, which would require his removal after initiation by his own Cabinet, which, at present, seems unlikely. Another, third impeachment, also is currently unlikely at least until the next election in 2026. But in any event, the majority of enlightened voters of either party could, with a great majority, elect a legislative body able to limit Trump’s destructive behavior until he leaves office.

Finally, I advise everyone to read the books referred to above.

Donald Trump and maga Republicans continue to ignore administrative incompetence

Echo opinion letters published in The New York Times:

Dear Editor:  A day does not pass when Donald Trump’s glaring unfitness and authoritarianism are not on full display.

The firing of the commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Erika McEntarfer, is just the latest outrageous example: shooting the messenger in an effort to deny reality.

Republican members of Congress, with rare exceptions, have been silent. Their complicity and compliance must be attacked by a public that refuses to accept this as normal. Many of these individuals know better and choose — either out of fear or self-interest — to turn a blind eye to the catastrophe befalling our country.

From Larry S. Sandberg in New York. a clinical associate professor of psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College.

Dear Editor: Donald Trump’s firing of Erika McEntarfer, the commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, for weak labor market numbers is like terminating the weather forecaster because it rains on your picnic.

In my 95 years on this earth, I have never seen such childish tactics from a person in high office, let alone a president. He should pick up his toys and go home.

No Kings peaceful protests spark support among Americans focused on protecting our democracy

Thousands of protesters participated in “No Kings” demonstrations across the United States, country, including in Fort Myers and Naples, Florida. The protests were largely driven by opposition to Donald Trump and his policies, with participants expressing concerns about threats to democracy and the rule of law.
Echo opinion published in the News-Press, a Florida newspaper,

No Kings protest:  Ever since the 2024, election, I have had many mornings when I feel angre. But, the way a good friend expressed it to me, really hit home. It goes like this: I am not going to lie, ever since the election a sense of bitterness engulfed me and because of this I had not participated in any of the protests. Today I woke up with the same feeling; what's the point, it's too late, it's not going to matter. I laid there for 10 minutes debating what to do. I finally made myself get out of bed, grab my cameras and go. I got there at 9:00 and there were only a couple of people there. I was disappointed, but then all of a sudden, all at once the floodgates opened and humanity poured onto highway 41 like a blue wave. There were good souls all the way from the Bell Tower Shops to Home Depot. There were peaceful people of all ages, from 8 to 80 years old, for a mile on both sides of 41 and some on Daniels Parkway. My heart soared with a glorious feeling of not being alone. I had once again found my tribe. For all of you who participated in the No Kings Protest in Fort Myers, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me hope. I thank you for showing me there are still many good and decent people in our area. The last count was 4,000 in Lee County and 11-13 million around the country. I love you all 💗, thank you🙏.

My good friend opened her soul to me and many of her friends in such a beautiful way, that I had to share it, so that any of you, like me, that have had this same feelings, can rest assured you are not alone. We all know what has to be done. "We the people" all know that what is happening with the Donald Trump, MAGA Republican administration, is not right. We have to band together as brothers and sisters of the world and make a difference. Democracy is everything and the only thing.

Kevin McCarthy sold his political soul to the conspiracy coalition

 Thin GOP majority, dangerous game

Echo opinion letter published in theNews-Post a newspaper in Fort Myers, Florida:

Now that the GOP (QOP) House has a scant new majority of four seats: Republicans are going to play Russian Roulette with our debt ceiling and decimate our full faith and credit and threaten a shutdown at the worst possible time as we are clawing back from COVID.
Speaker McCarthy has given new life to the cause of being a dummy. Who is his ventriloquist.
Because Kevin McCarthy promised everything to hardliners to get the gavel after 15 votes, we now have election deniers, conspiracy proponents and QAnon proponents like Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert sitting predominantly on the Government Oversight Committee and Jim Jordan (#GymJimJordan!) heading up the Judicial Committee.

Their first order of business should be the debt ceiling and helping our economy bounce back but, instead, they’re going to concentrate on impeaching Joe Biden and investigating his son. The well-being of their constituents and the electorate is way on the back on the list of possible achievements. They probably will have their very thin majority for two years so this is what we have to deal with till then but it could be too late.

US Supreme Court is inconsistent in applying the "equal protection" principle!

Echo opinion from Fort Myers, published in The News-Press
Other 'rights' may be eroded!
Protect women's health!
The decision by the Supreme Court to purposefully do significant harm to women may portend further decisions that continue to erode other "rights" we have become accustomed too.

Although the current interpretation of the Second Amendment is under no threat from this court, keep in mind that its members will someday change and that the rights Roe v. Wade conferred on women were in force for longer than the right for an individual to carry an AR-15.
Obviously, Justice Alito gives more protection to men - where is the "equal protection principle"?

Among the several bizarre reasons Justice Alito gave for his decision is the fact that the Constitution does not specifically contain the word "abortion" (there was no need as abortion was readily available and accepted as a sometimes necessary medical procedure; even Ben Franklin invented and promoted an abortion inducing potion). Well, the Second Amendment says a well regulated militia can bear arms but does not specifically say individual citizens can. A future Supreme Court may point that out.

Russian people must remove Vladimir Putin

Russian people must stop Putin!

Echo opinion letter published in the News-Press, a newspaper in Fort Myers, Florida.

Russian people must be reached.

Russian-Ukraine unprovoked invasion

Indeed, the Russian people are the ones who now allow this man to bring us to the brink, close to nuclear war, to where we are.

Yes, Putin may have the support of some of his military and of his police; but it's the people as a whole who have the power. Just as they did, the day before, in Germany in 1939 and in Japan in 1940.

American leadership has chosen to take the path of peace, by way of avoiding direct conflict. I think that most in America believe that is the right path, but I believe that message is not reaching the Russian people. It hasn't reached the Russian, who stands just behind Putin, his YES men, his support, nor the Russian soldier.

Evil Vladimir Putin continues to order devastating unprovoked attacks on Mariupaul, Ukraine

It is clear, that man has gone beyond the pale: "Outside the limits of acceptable behavior or judgment."

We give our wealth and some means of defense. The Ukrainian people give their homes, their heritage, their lives, their all.

It's up to the Russian people to now save everything. This in which most of us believe; a chance of life on this beautiful planet.

It's now time for the Russian people to stand up and say, "Let's roll!"

We need you, our media to get them the message!
