Donald Trump should read the history about what other American and tested world leaders have done to rise above challenges

Echo opinion letter:

Leaders are defined by how they handle problems/crisis and the actions they take. Examples of leaders would be Winston Churchill (World War II), President John F. Kennedy (Cuban missile crisis), President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (Great Depression), President Ronald Reagan (Berlin Wall), Lech Walesa ( Poland overthrow of the United Soviet Socialist Republican) etc. etc. (Maine Writer- perhaps include Nelson Mandela in this group.)

Today, America is in the middle of possibly the gravest event (pandemic coronavirus) in the past 75 years. We have all or soon will be personally affected by this crisis. The situation is serious, dangerous, life altering and very personal. The situation calls out for and demands strong, focused leadership.

Yet, Trump’s (failed) leadership during this crisis has been lacking and subsequently dangerous for the citizenry of our country.

Failure to anticipate, failure to react, failure to lead (no national strategy), failure to tell the truth and failure to provide empathy.

If Trump were leading an American corporation, the board of directors would have already “shown him the door.” We, the American people, are the board of directors for our country. Let us be sure we do our job! (#Trumpmustresign!) From Robert A Stratton Austin, Minnesota

Donald Trump's illusions of superiority is damaging Americans who are captured in his cult

"...cognitive bias of illusory superiority comes from the inability of people (like Donald Trump) to recognize their lack of ability", the Dunning-Kruger effect.
Injecting Lysol - Donald Trump's scientific ignorance

An editorial summary about Trump's irrational stupidity published in The Week:

Donald Trump "has often claimed that he is exceptionally smart," said Matt Flegenheimer, in The New York Times, citing his genetic connection to a supposedly "super-genious" uncle who is a scientist. But, his musings last week about alternativ treatments for COVID-19, did not make Trump sound very smart. Rather, they created "near-universl public alarm".

At one of his too-painful-to-watch coronavirus briefings, an excited Trump hailed reseach showing the coronairus' vulnerability to sunlight and household disinfectants. To the visible dicomformt of coronavirus adviser Dr. Deborah Birx (who should have stood up to Trump, but instead looked like the naughty lady sitting in the princibal's office) Trump wondered what would happen if "you brought the light inside th ebody...either through the skin or in some other way, " and if disinfectant could be used to clear the COVID-riddled lungs, "by injection inside, or almost a cleaning."

When Donald Trump asked about injesting chemicals into the lungs to clean them out or shine heat into the body to kill the coronavirus, Dr. Deborah Birx was visibly uncomfortable. But, she sat properly, looking like the naughty lady waiting to spill the beans on a guilty student in the principals' office. She never called out Trump's stupidity! Shame on her!

Of all the "head-snappingly stupid things" Trump has said, this stands apart, said Paul Waldman, in The Washington Post. Yes, it follows weeks of him touting inthe hydroxycholoroquine, "like he was on an infomercial hwking 'male enhancement pills," nd months of Trum insisting that the virus would just go away, "like a miracle". But, the sheer madness of his bleach cure illustrates, "with particular vividenss not just who Trump is, but the damage he's doing to the country."

Moreover, after Trump speculated about ingesting toxic disinfectants as a treatment for coronavirus, the Kansas secretary of health reported that a man drank a cleaning product "because of the advice he received," and the state's Poison Control Center saw a 40 percent spike in cleaning-chemical exposure cases.

In fact, the makers of Lysol and Clorox had to warn customers to not ingest their products.  Nonetheless, two men in Georgia drank cleaning products hoping to prevent COVID-19 infections and in Illinois, two people were reported to gargle with bleach mixted with mouthwash in attemps to killthe  coronavirus.  Maryland and New York also saw upticks in poison-control inqiries about cleaning products.

Trump actually believes that he's smarter than scientists, said Jonah Goldbert, in TheDispatch.com.  Longing for an "easy fix" to a pandemic that threatens his re-election, Trump seized on the bleach-and-sunlight cure as a "brilliant idea that never occured to the fancy-pants experts."  Trump suffers from what is known as the Dunning-Kruger* effect, said Jonathan Chait in NYMag.com.

This well-documented phenomenon describes how people with low ability are too incompetent to recognize their own incompetence. what shoud worry us most about Trump's embrace of quack cures isnt't that gullible people will try thm. It's that e's lfet no doubt that we're facing the greatest public-health crises in a century behind the leadershp of "an ignorant crank, who thinks he's a genius."

*In the field of psychology, the Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people with low ability at a task overestimate their ability. It is related to the cognitive bias of illusory superiority and comes from the inability of people to recognize their lack of ability.

Donald Trump is a dangerously chaotic failed leader - echo

Opinion echo - Dear Editor of the Ellsworth American:

It seems so useless watching the daily dose of news nowadays, just as if there were a real leader in the Oval Office. Instead, we are stuck with something quite different, something so bizarre with its verbal meanderings, observing a person who seems so detached from reality as to defy belief.

While the country staggers in a daily struggle to combat the deadliest virus known to man, we are treated to a boring, two-hour-long clown show, while Trump tells us how competent he is, how successfully he has led in the battle to conquer the coronavirus. Did we really hear him suggest swallowing poisons as a cure? Trump has contributed nothing even close to leadership in what is an unprecedented national crisis. Health workers have struggled to treat patients, while having to work without adequate protective equipment: masks, gloves and gowns. They have been in the front lines of the epidemic and many have died needlessly.

What is so ironic about this stubborn lack of leadership is the fact that Trump wants desperately to win a second term. Second terms most often rely on a strong economy. One would think that bolstering a falling economy would be foremost in his mind. It is. He thinks that getting people back to work regardless of a deathly virus killing thousands every day is a good idea. How stupid. A competent thinking person would do all possible to end the virus so that the country could go back to normal and the economy would begin to pick up as citizens went back to work without fear of contracting the disease. Why has Trump not understood that simple solution? A form of paranoia is indicated. I think Trump genuinely believes that the whole pitiful situation is something trumped up by the Democrats. This kind of “thinking” will get us nowhere.

Failed Donald Trump! Any former president preferred.

#failedleadership

An echo opinion by Rachel James-Terry, published in the Jackson Mississippi Clarion Ledger
Self-quarantining, social-distancing, face masks, hand sanitizer, toilet paper and repeat.

Our world as we knew it has been dumped on its head.

Well, for people of color, that happened once Donald Trump was elected. (Maine Writer.....I am proud to claim my vote was to elect the winner of the popular presidential vote, Secretary Hillary Clinton!)

Now, in the eye of the coronavirus pandemic crisis, the (fake) leader of the free world (FLOTFW) (impotus45), depending on who you ask, is continuing his routine of deflection, blame, feign intelligence, insults, self-adoration, (narcissism).....repeat.

When will (Trumpzi) America wake up? Americans are, rapidly, becoming as sick and tired of the satire-based reality show dressed up as COVID-19, coronavirus pandemic press briefings, as they are fearful of Trumpzi's failed leadership.

Thank the pandemic gods for Dr. Anthony Fauci. He is a glimmer of sanity amid the hypersensitive minefield that Trump has created in the White House. Still, supporters cling to him in almost David Koresh-cultish fashion. They justify his antics and attempt to piece together a rational thought from his fragmented sentences and limited vocabulary.

After Trump's ramblings about disinfectant and light injections, people were valiantly defending his connect-the-dot phrasing. Granted, Cedars Sinai Hospital is studying UV light therapy, and minuscule measurements of bleach can be used to disinfect drinking water. However, the leader of millions of Americans should articulate his ideas and provide context in a manner that does not increase the number of calls to poison control centers.

It is his lack of comprehension that makes me long for the days when presidents were insightful and astute. At this point, I would almost take any former president.

We have been inundated with sad stories about the deaths of those on the front lines, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters and grandparents. I have been moved to tears several times watching wives and husbands break down on national television sharing their coronavirus experiences.
